Jorn Lande would be a great choice, too. You ever heard Masterplan's cover of "Black Dog?" Fanfrickintastic.
How about Beth Hart?
Now that would be awesome. I wish her other DVD performance was on YouTube still because that one will give you chills it's so awesome.

I have her Live At Paradiso disc and that version of Whole Lotta Love is incredible.
Her cover of Humble Pie's "I Don't Need No Doctor" rules too.
Beth Hart is far and away my favorite female artist

Seriously, the woman is just brilliant. The trill in her voice is unbelievable. I don't know how she does it for so long. But yeah, the Live at Paradiso performance is amazing. Goose bumps, man.

Everything rock is supposed to be. Sweaty, sensual, sexual and loud. Just a great performance! One of my favorite concert DVDs!

BTW, if we don't have a Beth Hart thread here, we need one.

Oh yeah, I remember that.
At least I'm consistent; my review of the Paradiso performance hasn't changed a bit.
I think my favorite part of that DVD is that long blues song Beth does in the middle of the DVD where she goes out into the crowd and seems to have a thing for a female audience member. I normally find the blues boring but that song is just gripping.

I am huge Doors fan but Ian Asbury replacing Jim Morrison was a terrible idea, Jim Morrison is more than just a singer and songwriter , like him or not he has became a cultural icon, no matter how talented Ian Asbury or any other singer are in their own right you cannot escape that shadow.
Same with Led Zeppelin, maybe Robert Plant's voice isn't as strong as it used to be, but he was a major part of their sound and image, no Robert Plant no Led Zeppelin.

Yeah i get what your saying....but those guys in those respective bands want(ed) to play their songs live again, they had that itch.
And who are we to begrudge them of doing that with a different singer because the original frontmen/icon can't be there through death or reluctance.
Good on them i say for doing this and not being held to some fans expectations. Musicians have got to do things for themselves and be a bit more selfish and not care what some jaded fans think.

I seem to recall a rumor that after Jim died the remaining Doors planned on reforming around...Iggy Pop. I really heard that at one time. Was I stoned or what?

After Jim Morrison's death, The Doors recorded two albums as a trio, 'Other Voices" and " Full Circle", they disbanded. A few years later, The Doors manager Danny Sugarman had began to manage Iggy Pop and was trying to convience Ray Manazarek to revive the Doors with Iggy Pop as their frontman. This idea went nowhere and the only thing that came from this is that Ray Manazarek and Iggy Pop performed Doors songs at a Whiskey A Go gig. This story is given in fuller detail in Danny Sugerman's book "Wonderland Ave"

I will agree with part of your statemen, and they do have a right to perform songs that they wrote and made famous. But a band should be more than just a brand name if it isn't it is no better than a box of Tide or any other product on the shelf. I do hope that Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham do continue with the project even if Robert Plant chooses not to take a part in the reunion. But if Robert Plant is not going to be in the band it is not Led Zeppelin. call it something else. If Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr choose to tour together next year they would not bill themselves as The Beatles, as a matter a fact Paul McCartney still performs Beatle songs on stage, just because you do not use the name doesnot prevent you from playing the songs.
Ian Asbury as a good vocalist in his own right, but Jim Morrison's shadow shrouds that entire bands music and history, you cannot overcome it. Calling themselves The Doors of the 21st Century besides being a dumb name was nothing but a glorified tribute act without new music being created and without John Densmore's involvement and Jim Morrison's absence. Nobody is stopping Ray Manazerk and Robby Krieger from celebrating their own history and honoring their friend but this is still not The Doors.
And who are we to begrudge them of doing that with a different singer because the original frontmen/icon can't be there through death or reluctance.

It proves that Tremonti was the driving force behind the success. He managed to put another band together from scratch and throw around some good songwriting.

He really didnt have to go far to find musicians did he Alter Bridge is amazing. When I first heard Tremonti play in Creed the potential was endless. This is a guy who takes what he does very serious. He lives to play and write. In Alter Bridge he just rips.
You guys are right on, Blackbird is def one of the best if not the best Hard Rock cd I have heard since I dont know when. Every song has something new to offer and the song Blackbird amazes me the more I listen to it.
What makes a guitar hero? The ability to take an ok song and make it amazing. Listen to Tremonti's solo below. This song goes from ok to simply amazing.

We are pleased to inform you that the recording of our third album has been completed. It was an amazing journey and we believe that the songs that we have created are our most inspired and dynamic work to date. We all worked very hard on these songs, over a long period of time, and we are all fiercely proud of what we have recorded. We have played some of the rough mixes of the songs to a few of our "trusted ears" and they are telling us that we have absolutely topped the Blackbird album. The true test will come when we get to hear what all you fans think and we are very much looking forward to that day
The next step in the process will be mixing, which will begin in mid-April, in New York. The mixing will probably take a few weeks and once that is finished, we will begin the difficult task of deciding which songs will make the album. The goal is to release the album in September, before our planned October tour in Europe that will start in the UK. Stay tuned here for the latest news and updates as they happen
New from the band... Cant wait for this...
