Ive heard it once. Not bad, I like them but they arent the best band around. They're enjoyable but not mind-blowing by any stretch of the imagination. just my $.02.

For what they are (hard alternative) - they are great! I wouldn't call them metal though.
But I do agree that out of all the modern rock/hard alt bands out there - Alter Bridge is probably the best. I don't have their new one, but I picked up their first one a few years ago. It is very good. I plan on getting "Black Bird" soon enough.

I checked out their MySpace page and the songs I heard weren't bad. I wasn't blown away, but better than expected them to be. I doubt they'll make it to my wish list, with so much other music to get, but they're ok. Not like Creed at all, if that connection frightens people away.

There is just so much that I want right now (in the way of metal and other stuff) that this new album will probably take a back seat for a while. It's on the list though.

I just checked out some of their songs and i'm pleasantly surprised. I hear a slight southern rock sound mixed with a little BLS groove. Their new one isn't bad at all.

Anyone know of Submersed? This is the singular modern "corporate" rock band that I love....how does this stack up?

I've heard 'of' Submersed, but have not heard them. I'll check them out though - thanks!

Their new album just hit the Billboard Top 200 at number 13 first week.
Not bad.

Can someone tell me why everyone gushes over these guys? Don't get me wrong, they sound good, but they sound no different than all the other bands like this that those same people say suck. How did this band manage to transcend the internet trends of trash-talking?

One thing about AB is that they play straight forward hard rock with metal elements to there music. Its hard to find a rock band that has as much talent as these guys do and is fronted by one of the best singers in rock today.
There new cd Blackbird not only is amazing but it's what Rock music needs nowadays, when there are nothing but carbon copy bands who only try to sound like there main influence and the pioneer of that genre of music..
Don't get me wrong everyone isnt goin to like these guys, but to see them live and to see what passion they put into the music is something thats missing today where bands are just trying to go mainsream..
I dont know if i answered your question but there arent too many rock bands out there that can touch these guys in live performance and pure talent. Just give the cd a chance and hopefully it will come to be what most ppl who have it say it is simply "Amazimg"

You haven't convinced me. This band is a dime-a-dozen modern rock band.
That's the American Idol dude. Now, Alter Bridge might bust out some riffs that are a bit more metalic from time to time, but the bulk of thier stuff is like those videos above.
Nickelback, 3 Doors Down...where's the difference? Again, don't mistake my comments here; I'm not hating on the band. I actually don't dislike this band. I'm just confused how so many people—and actually let me further elaborate and say metalheads—like this band, but slam every other band that plays this style. Is it because they're the antithesis to Creed, a band hated by most everyone, or Scott Stapp? It just confuses me.
Good band, though. I just don't understand how they came to be so universally accepted into the cool crowd.

you are comparing Alter Bridge to Daughtry and Nickleback? Why?
Rise Today is probably the only song on that disc that will get modern radio play...
Alter Bridge won't get close to the success of either of those bands and Daughtry is an American Idol contestant who didnt even win..
I think you should listen to the whole cd before commenting on maybe 2 songs u heard..
They are not the same they write extremly well crafted rock music and are extremely gifted musicians.
There are 13 songs on this disc and and 3 bonus tracks. That video you show displays nothing about the other songs on the disc. It is the weakest song on the cd and its on the radio that should say something..
There are hints of metal, progressive elements, and just plain brilliance on the cd below is a video to probably the most epic rock song in 20 years..

I have this now and I'd say it's the best in its "genre" since Submersed's first one. Truly fantastic! Not normally my cup of tea but this just rocks!!

Yeah, I'm with MetalRob and ScottMitchell on this one. Alter Bridge is heads and shoulders 'above' the current mainstream drivel out there. They're not by any means one of my favorite bands - but for this style, they simply rule the roost. I'll be getting the new album soon.

Because they play the same style of music.

Ah, here you're wrong. Months ago I asked what the hype was all about. So when the new album came out I picked that and the debut up. I have heard them, man.

I really like 3 Doors Down, and while I'm no Daughtry or Nickelback fan, it can't be denied that they write memorable songs.

Listen, you're clearly a big fan. I think saying that that song is the most epic rock song in 20 years may indicate a bit of bias! Haha. Again, I'm not ragging on your band, I'm asking why they're so accepted over other bands that are not, bands that are playing the same style of music. I sense you're getting angry here, but you're not answering my question. You're just saying they're great. Well, that's totally subjective and doesn't answer my question. It's cool to like this band, and I'm just baffled as to why that is.

I'd have to say you guys probably haven't heard many bands outside of radio that play this style. Not a knock against you, of course, but I think it's safe to say this probably isn't a style that's a big blip on your radar. There are a ton of bands playing this style that are killer. But again, these comments from you and SM74 point right at my question. Why do you like them? Sure, they're really good, but why'd you even check them out in the first place?
10 Years, Flaw, Liquid Gang, Day Of Fire, 3 Doors Down, all bands that I think are just as good, but they get no love from the people that praise Alter Bridge. It just makes no sense to me.

Well, I can clearly see your point. This particular 'style' of music is something I just don't have much of in my collection. I'm too busy collecting real metal stuff (and sometimes industrial, darkwave stuff) that I just don't find time to focus on much in the way of mainstream. I don't listen to the radio at all hardly, so I can see what you say.
I checked out Alter Bridge because people I trusted on the boards were recommending them - so I gave them a shot. I liked them. They are nowhere near a top fave though - not even sure if and when I'll pick up the new album. I did buy their first one - "One Day Remains" and liked it well enough to keep it.

flaw is one of my fav bands as well, but even them along with those others are nowhere near as good as AB. Three doors down is just a plain rock band. Nickleback just writes to sell and lacks any type of emotion live and man that Kroger guy has no tone what so ever... Mark Tremonti and the band are hands and feet above all those other bands in talent.
I much prefer Tremontis virtuoso riffs and leads over mostly all modern rock bands..
Alter Bridge in my eyes are just pure modern rock geniuses.
As of not hearing anything outside of radio, I HATE RADIO. I find all my bands from friends and tons of searching i have a music library based on about 1000 cds. 70% you wont hear on radio....

Well, I'm not comparing any of these bands in terms of quality. Flaw is one of the best bands I've ever heard, and Liquid Gang's Sunshine album is a top favorite in this style, but taste has nothing to do with what I'm talking about here.
Blackie wrote: "I checked out Alter Bridge because people I trusted on the boards were recommending them - so I gave them a shot."
That's what I'm talking about. Why are people recommending them. Just because they're good? Fine. That's understandable. But they're not the only good band playing this style, and those bands don't get recommended. I have always believed that trends dictate taste, to an extent. Remember when everyone loved Limp Bizkit? What made everyone turn on them, particularly Fred Durst? They never changed. Fred Durst never became a different person. But online you can see e-global changes of opinions like you can see an oncoming storm. And now very few people claim to like Limp Bizkit. What brought about that change? A trend, I think.
Alter Bridge is a good band, but if somehow e-public opinion changes, 90% of those that once praised them will be on the opposite side of the fence. Anyway, that's my opinion. Not trying to turn this into some philosophical debate or anything. They're a good band, but I still do understand why they're so accepted among the masses while other bands just as good, or even just really good, if you want to say they're the best, go largely unnoticed and often slandered in every which way.

i think ppl look at Alter Bridge more because of the talent in this band. Mark Tremonti imo is the best modern rock guitarist out there right not. Myles Kennedy has a set of pipes that any singer would want.
I think its all about the music, these guys are right on the line between Metal and Modern Rock. Dont get me wrong i love Flaw one of my favorite bands and i'm so stoked about the release of the new album and Chris Volz is juat an amazing singer btw his solo cd was impressive as well.
