We appreciate the fact that it's a fantastic record. That's it really.

So you’re saying fans only appreciate this album because Judas Priest are so old, and it has nothing to do with the music? That’s funny, because if memory serves, fans let judas priest have it after Nostradamus was released.
Just curious, do you like any Judas Priest albums?

I love Nostradamus. It is one of the best JP albums ever. Lots of talent in there.

if memory serves right....there were quite some fans that did not like Painkiller cause it was TOO heavy (besides obviously them not liking Turbo and Ram It Down, which i like that album) to then say the same things about Jugulator to then Demolition and so on.
my point is. nobody is Liking this album because they appreciate that Judas Priest are still making metal (if that were the case, then you'd see people praising every Metallica album after St. Anger, which is false by the way, lol), it's cause the reason i always see when Confronting this album is that, not very much people CARED for the post Halford Reunion albums, they were either met with "Average" to negative views, but Firepower is met with a LOT more praise SINCE 1990.
now i have enjoyed pretty much most of what Judas Priest has released but there have been a few albums that i don't honestly care for (Point of Entry, Demolition, Nostradamus and Redeemer of Souls) but i can honestly say, that Firepower exceeded my expectations. taking the good things about the modern, more recent albums and taking of what made the classic albums so good and blending 'em together. sure, i may not say this is Priest at it's Peak, but it shows a band that belted out one last breath of fire before heading out into the sunset, like a good Action movie.

I wish Andy Sneap well (it can't be easy stepping in for a key member of the band) but he looks very awkward on stage in the footage from the opening night of the tour:

I liked it also, I was just using it as an example because of all the hate it gets. It does have some parts I could do without, but overall it's a great album. I like it mostly because it's so different than what they normally do. I think that's why I like them so much more than other bands. You can pretty much go from album to album and get a different experience. Each one is different, but you can tell it's Judas Priest.

Nostradamus was a good album, a bit overblown, but still good. Redeemer Of Souls was good as well, but really had no staying power with me. I have yet to get Firepower but will do so soon. We'll see how it stands up to the rest of their discography. I have high hopes for it.

I thought the same thing. Kind of looks like a random auto mechanic (no offense to him or auto mechanics). Here are some more videos:
Went to another Walmart last night and no dice. Amazon it is then, which is what I should've done in the first place. I see new Bob Seger, Hendrix and several other titles but no Priest.

It is indeed weird to see him playing in replacement of glenn. But fans will end up getting used to him i guess.

I'm sure Ripper Owens will be backstage at that show. He's an Akron native.

Yup, used to take in his shows at the local club scene back in the day, had a band in 94 where we opened up for his band...

What band did you play for? Ohio used to have an awesome metal scene! Did you open for Winters Bane, Brainicide, or US Metal?

I've been in the area myself several times in the 80s and early 90s. I have relatives that live in Canton and Minerva.

I have been spinning some priest albums while waiting for my copy of firepower to arrive. Painkiller and screaming for vengeance yesterday, nostradamus today hopefully.

I can't believe Judas Priest dusted off the cobwebs and decided to play this for the first time ever. It's shocking to think that at some point during the year of 1978 this one wasn't played at least once:

It was a great show, and Halford sounded great! My son took a bunch of pics, I'll see if I can load some later. ToB, I was in a band called "Tragic Symphony" at the time we opened for "U.S. Metal", the following year I would join "Mojo Risin."

I'm still just spinning the first six tracks.
I like the first two tracks. Fast, guitar-driven metal songs. Especially the title track resonates with me. I usually like the fast songs anyway, like Freewheel Burning and Exciter.
Evil Never Dies sounds good, and Faulkner is awesome, but it's a bit of a letdown after the first two merciless tracks.
Never the Heroes brought to mind Angel of Retribution (or even Demolition tracks such as Hell is Home). Catchy. I think I'll tire of it though.
Necromancer is a good track, but maybe not fast enough. A rather generic power/heavy metal song.
The track Children of the Sun makes me think of Nostradamus. Especially songs like Visions and Alone. The mid-tempo epic sounding tracks. One of my favourites.
The sound is very neat but has enough of a live feel. Halford hasn't sounded this good since Painkiller, so I'm assuming there's some correcting/trimming going on. But the result is fine. I was also into the "softer" sound of Redeemer of Souls, but this is an improvement on that too. And the song-writing is just better. More fresh melodies and riffs. And the verses and vocal melodies actually sound engaging and make you want to sing along.
