| I just watched the Cardinals lose to the Brewers 2-1. All 3 of these games were pretty tight. Cards lost 3-2 Tuesday, STL won last night 5-4 after trying like hell to blow a 5-1 lead and then today's lost.
That's the story of the STL season. Lots of close losses.
I think Mark DeRosa summed the Cardinals up great today when he said "It's not a character issue. It's that the Cardinals have too many of the same type of characters." He's right; we have too many players who are just like every other player on the team. It's like having one "pretty good" major league player and assembling a whole team of guys like that. You need some "spark plug" guys on your team; some guys who strike fear into opposing pitchers. We have no one remotely like that. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Watched the Pirates finally beat the Reds 6-0. They've really been tanking it lately and look like they've given up on the season. | |

| After a long rain delay and the Goosbumps movie, I watched the Pirates pull out a win over the Padres behind a 3 run pinch hit home run by Gregory Polanco. The final was 10-6. | |

| Watched the Cardinals finally win a road series (first one since April - !). Wainwright gave up 3 runs in the first and I figured we were done but the Cards came back with 4 in the second and 9 (!) in the fourth and went on to a 13-4 win. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Watched the Pirates win in the 12th inning with a walk off homer by the newly reacquired Sean Rodriguez, 5-4. The Pirates were winning 4-2 going into the 9th but Rivero blows the save with 2 outs. I wonder how many blown saves that is for the team? | |

| Watched the Cardinals win their 5th in a row thanks to "Rally Cat".
They were down 5-4 with the bases loaded and two outs when a cat ran onto the field and out into the outfield. A poor groundskeeper finally caught the cat and the cat was not happy. It scratched and bit the guy all the way back to the dugout. On the very next pitch, Molina hit a grand slam. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Watching the Cardinals try to continue this late-season surge tonight against the Braves.
STL has won 6 in a row and is only a game behind the first place Cubs. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| The Cards are making their move.
I watched the Pirates beat the Blue Jays 4-2 to finally make it back to .500.
I also watched a little bit of the Steelers-Giants preseason game.

| Cardinals are getting completely waxed by the Red Sox tonight. 9-0 in the 5th.
I can only hope Boston is wasting all these runs tonight and they lose by a run or two tomorrow. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| it's like nobody want to win the NL Central. Every time a team wins a bunch in a row they turn right around and lose a bunch of games. It actually doesn't matter anyway. All the other NL teams that will be in the post-season are better than all the NL Central teams. Especially if the Nats get healthy. I think they have the best chance of stopping the Dodger Juggernaut if they can get everyone back for the post-season. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Hope your wrong, only because I want the Diamondbacks to be the ones to knock out the Dodgers. Not that I think they have a shot in hell at doing that because the Dodgers seem to have our number for several years now, but I can still hope. Plus the Dodgers have some bad karma to pay off for pissing in the Diamondbacks pool when they clinched the division in our park a couple years ago. No better way for payback than knocking their asses out of the playoffs. But if the D-Backs get knocked out early, I'll definitely be rooting for the Nats. This all depends on the D-Backs not throwing in the towel and losing a WC spot to begin with. The way they've been playing lately, that's a distinct possibility.

| Cardinals at Pirates. Pirates are currently with ng 5-4
Edit: And of course, the Pirates bullpen strikes again, not only coughing up the lead, but letting the Cards pile it on. I swear Benoit has to be one of the worst pick ups ever.
