You would think with nearly 319 million people to choose from you could get someone who wasn't an alleged fraudster, murderer, satanic high priest or child rapist

Nah, I was wholeheartedly agreeing with you.  Out of all the people living in the US it's simply amazing to think we came up with these two bozos as presidential candidates.

I've actually heard a theory being floated around that this is how it's going to be from now on because no self-respecting, "good" person would willingly subject him or herself (and their families, friends and acquaintances) to the kind of 24/7 scrutiny that's now foist upon presidential candidates.  Thanks a lot social media and 24 hour news networks.

I will give her credit though, in her speech today Hillary finally came across as genuine and magnanimous.  It's just too bad that she had to take that tone in defeat; I think she'd have done much better if she'd taken that tone throughout the campaign.

I thought the same about Trump's acceptance speech.

BTW, I'd also like to say that I'm impressed that this thread stretched to 4 pages and for the most part stayed civil.  Maybe that's because everyone on each side was less than happy with the candidates but I still fully expected we'd end up shutting this thread down before the election even happened.

Yeah Trump appeared to be throwing olive branches out left and right (pun intended).

I also thought Obama's speech today was good.  He actually complimented Bush's transitional team and said he wants his team to emulate them.  From everything I've read Bush's transitional team set the gold standard for easing the new president elect into office and it's good to know Obama wants to continue that.

I mean, when someone who has been spewing hate towards groups of people gets elected...people are just gonna be like, "ok, cool"?

I was expecting there to be protests no matter who won. As long as stuff remains non-violent , people have the right to protest.

I've seen despicable things shared around of stuff that has occurred in the past couple days from the other side against Muslims and women, so....those bigoty f*cks doing that kind of stuff need to go to their safe spaces...talk about entitlement.

They have the right to protest.  They don't have the right to stop traffic and disrupt the lives of everyday citizens.

I generally agree with that, but presumably these protests will last a few days. Muslim women will be having their Hijabs pulled off for a bit longer I'm going to assume. One instance being shared around took place in a Walmart (of course) where a woman yanked off another's hijab and told her those weren't allowed here anymore and that she should wrap it around her throat, not her head.

And though they're only words, it's disconcerting the number of tweets after Trump won that proclaimed they were going to be grabbing all the pussies the next day.

Yeah, I'm cool with some traffic being blocked for a couple days.
