I thought this album was a piece of hot garbage when it was released. It felt like an attempt by Dio to stay relevant in the contemporary music scene by writing dour songs with "woe is me" lyrics. I saw the Angry Machines tour and I felt that Tracy G sounded terrible when attempting to pull off the earlier Dio songs and the Sabbath/Rainbow material. I ditched Angry Machines some time after that and I've never reacquired it.
I was no fan of Strange Highways either when it was released, however I've recently revisited it and I now think it's great. That makes me think that I should revisit Angry Machines to see if I might like it better now.

I have never heard Angry Machines but I do like Strange Highways and Magica a lot and I also think that of the albums I have heard only Lock Up The Wolves was underwhelming.

Dio later conceded that he took the band in the wrong direction w/"Angry Machines" and went back to what he does best!

That song actually was on the Japanese version of Angry Machines. Too bad, it's a good song.

All bands disavow their musical experiments when they result in commercial failure.

There's a deluxe edition of this that came out in March. I just ordered, so let's see how it is. Originally I hated Angry Machines, but I'll try anything twice.
It comes with a bonus live disc, which is nice.

Those reissues are interesting. But i took the firm decision last year to restrict my purchases to the strict essentials.

Woke up in the mood for some Dio today.
Ended up playing Killing The Dragon while on my way to the office. Great album.

I have all the recent Deluxe reissues. Angry Machines is still not good. Such a disappointment.

Which ones have the best bonuses and/or production improvements?

Since I recently watched the Dio documentary Dreamers Never Die, I've been hitting all the RJD stuff in my collection (Dio, Sabbath, and Rainbow) pretty hard.
As I mentioned earlier in this thread (umpteen years ago), I used to own Angry Machines, but traded it off at some point cuz I never listened to it.
However, thanks to the doc piquing my interest in all things Ronnie I'm re-visiting it right now via YouTube and it's better than I remembered... so I'm considering re-acquring it. (It's the only Dio studio album I don't own, which is the sort of thing that bugs the hell outta my collectors' O.C.D. ... ) I see Angry Machines was reissued in 2020 as a 2CD set with a bunch of live tracks on the 2nd disc. Wiki sez the live stuff is from the Inferno: Last In Live album, minus a few songs, but that's fine by me cuz I never owned that album.
I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on this ...

I still need to watch this documentary I’ve been hearing about.

That's the CD I ended up buying two years ago. It's given me new appreciation for this era of Dio.
It's still the worst DIO albums, but it's alright and enjoyable. I'm glad the 2CD set was released

Never had a problem with it. Expectations were low I guess but I liked it from the first time I heard it.

I like that album, but probably don't listen to it as much as I should. I haven't heard about the 2 disc reissue, but if the bonus disc is from the Inferno cd, then you can't go wrong there. I love that concert cd, but some people didn't much care for it. Think it has something to do with the guitarist playing on it, but I don't really know. I think it captures Dio in all his glory, and it's one hell of a setlist.

The Angry Machines re-ish arrived in today's mail. It's one of those snazzy lookin' MediaBook CD packages that looks like a little hardcover book. Now my Dio studio album discography is complete again.

My favourite song is "Stay out of My Mind", which I've heard many say they don't like.
