MYSPACE- LOVE IT/HATE IT!!!

I LOVE Myspace!! It is a great place to check out new bands/new songs by bands you already know++++
I HATE Myspace! Because it often takes FOREVER to download pages, and very often the music players there is connecting for ages .
Is this just me/my computer? Or is it like this for everyone?

I love the idea of MySpace in theory but I hate it in real life! 9 times out of 10 if I click on a link to a band's MySpace page, it takes FOREVER to load cuz of all the junk on 'em (the media player, tons of pictures, fancy wallpaper, yadda yadda yadda) and sometimes they don't load at all for me. That could just be my computer of course, but I am not a patient man so if a MySpace page takes too long to load for me I will often say "Heck with it!" and click off.

I used to hate it, but of late, I am loving it!

As for the music players, I guess they have upgraded the flash players today, and I feel it is also faster to play songs.

And for overloading the profile, I dont blame myspace, but the crazy people who feels they are doing something great! Ironically I am even afraid to check some profile (though they are wonderful friends) - it takes ages to load, and once I click the profile link, I cant even get the browser closed till all the process runs.

Its a good place for hardrock/metal bands to promote their stuff and communicate.Other than that its just a haven for pornstar skanks and pedaphiles.....Ohhhh look at me ive got 500 friends- ???????

The only good thing about them is the music players so you can hear new music before it comes out.

i have never seen the point of myspace cos you cant do a lot with it unless you have a degree in html or summat like that but good for checking bands out though apart from long wait times

Besides, when he first started his MySpace page, one of his first "friend requests" was from his crazy-as-hell high school girlfriend, whom he hadn't spoken to in twenty years... no thanks! We thought that was pretty funny actually, although his wife didn't see the humor in it.

Our other friends rake him over the coals about his MySpace addiction all the time. He'll be like "I was on MySpace the other day..." and our one buddy will chime in "YOU have a MySpace? My DAUGHTER has a MySpace. She's TWELVE."

Exactly! I had one for a while and it was cool catching up with some long lost friends...but after a while I got tired of the above mentioned porn and credit card nonsense. You don't need an account to check out bands, so I canceled mine. GREAT decision! And the only friends I'm still interested in are friends in the REAL world like FatFreddy said.....

it's ok... i've never had a problem with it.

It's a good place to keep in touch with old friends you no longer go to school with or work with. And also to see some bands you might never have heard of.

With that said, there is way too much junk coming by way of friend requests and 5 straight bulletins sent by the same band because they need a new drummer/guitarist! How about just ask your local scene.

It's probably your computer. MySpace runs fine for me at home, but it often locks up my internet explorer at work, where I work on a turdly computer.

There's a few people that I knew from the Air Force or childhood that found me on MySpace, requested to be my "friend," but then when I didn't post comments on their page every day, or message them all the time, or reply to their retarded surveys, they removed me from their "friends" list. The music aspect of it is cool, but the fact that a lot of bands got rid of regular websites in place of MySpace pages drives me mad! Like, you're checking out a new band and want to know more, but there's no info at all! No discography, no bio, nowhere you can buy their music, it's just crap! I prefer traditional websites. So I dig the bands that have both. I think it's cool if bands use MySpace to stream their music, it saves them on bandwidth usage, but canning their whole website is stupid.

The other thing that sucks is the coding. Nearly everyone uses generators to make their pages, but they don't know how to remove all the crap embedded in the code. So that's another reason why pages take forever to load, or you get pop-ups and even viruses.

Seriously! This is the creepy part of MySpace. My current page is a music page, because back when I created it I was still planning on being a rock star. So last year or so I created a second page, I was going to make the switch from music profile to regular, but never did. This page was the bare bones, right when you sign up page. Tom was my only friend. One day I get an e-mail about a message, so I go and check it out and I have a message from a chick that I don't recognize right away. She was like "Is this Ken Wood? The Ken Wood?" Well, my name on the page was Ken Wood, so I almost deleted it, but then something in my head was like, "This chick is too dumpy to be a porno chick." Haha. So I checked her page out.

Sure enough, I knew her. I dated her for a month in 1997 in Little Rock, Arkansas! ONE MONTH! I slept with her four times, one time each weekend during that month, drunk. Haha. Not what you'd call a relationship to remember. Yet here she was 10 years later seeking me out on MySpace. Completely creepy. Now she's married with two kids, and a super-Christian! Like insanely Christian! I'm like, "Are you the same girl that was flashing everyone in Memphis and going on and on about your "nigger hat" the whole night?" Haha. She did do that, she was wearing this colorful hat and kept referring to it as that. Lots of black folk in Memphis; I was sure I was going to die. Dumb girl. Anyway, she remained on my friends list for a few months until she felt I wasn't being her friend enough and removed me. The first night I pointed her to my real page, she sent me like 40 messages, half of them were like "You're not replying fast enough!" or "Hello? Stop being a meanie!" and nonsense like that.

Am I rambling? I am, huh? It's slow today at work. Haha. Another more recent crazy MySpace encounter was from my best friend growing up. We sort of lost touch in high school as we went to different ones, but he found me on MySpace and to my utter shock, he's now a flamboyant homo! Hahaha. Talk about a surprise! Moreover, he seems to now be a complete idiot. I hate to say that, but the guy just seemed dumb and crazy. Check out these messages he posted to me as comments, so EVERYONE could see!

I don't have a myspace page, nor do I want one. I do not have a band to promote, didn't have many friends in highschool, and am now happily married. Having a page could only be trouble.

I have really no problem with anything loading for me, and my myspace site is for bands mostly currently have over 1500 and most are metal bands!

As a social loser with very few friends, the idea of myspace sounds very tempting. However, there are so many pitfalls to having that service that I am unsure of whether I should singn up. On the other hand I'm not going to get in contact with people if I don't at least try, so I shall have to give it some more thought.

Dude, you live in the Metroplex....aren't there places to go to meet like minded people? I wish I would have noticed where you're from a few weeks ago...Sonata Arctica was in Ft. Worth...we could've met at the concert. I could've met a Heartofmetal person! I've yet to meet anyone from this board or CMR. I swear I'm gonna go to Cornerstone one year! That will fulfill one nearly 20 year dream of seeing such a collection of Christian metal and a more recent wish to meet up with CMR and HofM people....

Guess the conclusion is that it is a good thing if it is used right, and works the way it is supposed to!
Frightening with all those creepy people out there though ( my 15 year old daughter has an account )
AS for my loading problems, I may have to upgrade my system...

I use it to keep up with my favorite bands. I have had some of my cousins, childhood friends and even some people I 'know' from message boards find me on there and ask to be my friend. I would have said no, because I use Myspace only for bands, but I didn't want to be rude. I just simply ignore them all.
