Marvel's Jessica Jones (Netflix)
Hard R-rated Marvel series, similar in approach to the Daredevil series from earlier this year but Jessica Jones has a distinctive flavor. Ritter is excellent as the title character and David Tennant (Doctor Who) makes a great slimy "big bad". Parents beware, a lot of humping going on in this series.
Oh wow. I didn't even know this was up and running. I'll have to check it out even though I am totally unfamiliar with the character.
Great show - I'm up to episode 5 so far.

I completed it, killer series. The last half of the season is INTENSE! Interesting that two of the best TV series this year have been Daredevil and Jessica Jones...and I don't even read comic books.

I have a long holiday weekend so I should be able to complete it then. Looking forward to it.

Planes Trains And Automobiles (1987) - the John Hughes directed Thanksgiving classic starring Steve Martin and the late great John Candy. This one never gets old and it's a tradition to watch every year.
The Keep (1983) - set in 1941, Nazi soldiers inadvertently free a demon that has been imprisoned inside an old fortress (the keep). Not too bad a film but could have been better.

"Max" (2015)
A military dog comes home to the U.S. to stay with the family of his handler, who was killed in action in Afghanistan. While "Max" learns to bond with his buddy's troubled younger brother, they end up getting mixed up in an adventure involving some local bad guys. An all-American family friendly action movie that's sappy in all the right places. My kids liked this one a lot.

This weekend.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015) - This one started out pretty good but a weak script and a dragging mid-section dampened the enjoyment. Some amusing segments but it's the kind of movie you forget 10 seconds after the credits roll.
Mission Impossible:Rogue Nation (2015) - Saw this in the theater and loved it, was just as enjoyable the second time. My vote for best big Hollywood movie this year.
San Andreas (2015) - Ugh. Every terrible disaster movie cliche is dusted off and thrown onto the screen in this overblown CG cartoon of a film. Sure, some of the destruction shots were nicely done, but I've seen this CG city destruction schtick so often over the past decade or so I'm just numb to it. Yawn.

My wife and kids really really liked this one... so much in fact that they've sat thru it twice now. Once was plenty for me. It's the same basic premise that you'd see in any random SyFy channel disaster movie, the only difference is that "San Andreas" had a mega-zillion dollar budget.
By the mid-way point I was focusing mostly on the impressive-bordering-on-spectacular cleavage on the gal who played the Rock's daughter....

Should have stuck with an Irwin Allen classic.

"Hot Pursuit" (2015)
By-the-numbers "odd couple" action comedy, with Reese Witherspoon as an uptight Texas cop escorting the wife of a federal witness (Sofia Vergara) to court so she can testify against a Mexican drug lord. Naturally, lots of bad guys try to eliminate them along the way. There are a few chuckles here and there and Vergara is nice to look at (which is a good thing cuz she sure as hell can't act!) but overall this flick is easily skippable.

I like to kick off my Christmas season with that one too. Watched it Saturday night. And thanks to the internet, I finally know the band and song that's playing when they are riding in Doobby's Taxiola...

"Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films" (2014)
From the director of B-Movie documentaries "Not Quite Hollywood" and "Machete Maidens Unleashed," this is the story of the rise and fall of Cannon Films, the infamous low-budget studio headed by Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus - two aspiring film moguls from Israel who unexpectedly took Hollywood by storm in the '80s thanks to ninjas, break-dancers, Chuck Norris, Charles Bronson, and an unbashed love of all things schlocky and over-the-top. Loaded with cool clips from dozens of Cannon classics as well as interviews with stars and associates like Bo Derek, Franco Nero, Luigi Cozzi, Lucinda Dickey, Richard Chamberlain and more. A total trip down retro memory lane!
