Grizzly (1976) - Jaws rip-off set in a national park terrorized by a 15' tall grizzly bear who has taken to snacking on the tourists. Starring Christopher George as Brody, Andrew Prine as Quint, and Richard Jaeckel as Hooper. Despite the obvious copying going on, I still enjoyed the film.

More Gotham.
Apparently the Galavan thread isn't wrapped up after all.
I love this show! Just ordered Season 1 on Blu Ray.
I still can't believe the stuff this show gets away with during prime time on a broadcast network. This week we added on-screen cannibalism to the list.

Watched John Mulaney's new special, The Comeback Kid, on netflix the other day and it was great. Almost as good as his first one. Some jokes felt a little derivative of his earlier stuff, but the timing was still great, and you could tell he really feels at home on stage. I'd recommend watching it.

"Exterminators of the Year 3000" (1983)
Post-apocalypse settlers battle with barbarians to lay claim to a water supply in this laughably cheesy Spanish/Italian "Mad Max" wanna-be. Enjoyable nonsense.

Last night I watched Nightmare Before Christmas.
And as usual today I'm walking around going "This is Halloween, this is Halloween..."

The Children (1980) - a bus load of school children drives through a toxic radioactive cloud , turning them into murderous zombies with black fingernails who microwave their victims by touch. Suspect acting but rather creepily effective.

Walking Dead - bit of an improvement over the past couple episodes, nice to have you-know-who back, great stylized cliffhanger--but the dialogue is getting really formulaic and empty lately. Looking forward to the mid-season finale--and hoping they're gonna stay true to the comic for one potent scene.

The Death of Superman Lives: What Really Happened
Fascinating doc on what could have been, a Tim Burton directed Superman movie starring Nicholas Cage. I caught it on Showtime, but I believe it can be found on YouTube as well. If you do plan on watching it, I recommend you watch this Kevin Smith clip beforehand to get some perspective on the story...

"Neon Maniacs" (1986)
Strangely-garbed creatures come out of a secret hidey-hole in the Golden Gate Bridge at night to slaughter random San Francisco residents. Eventually a couple of high school kids figure out that the only way to beat the murderous mutants is to spray'em with water, which disintegrates them.
...wait, what?
That's about all the info you'll get from this totally random late '80s video store favorite. There's no reason given for the creatures' existence, or why they want to kill everybody... hell, they don't even explain why they're called "Neon Maniacs." It doesn't make a damn bit of sense but at least it's not boring.

I remember that one! And you're right, it doesn't make a lick of sense.
I think I actually watched it multiple times because I liked the concepts of the Maniacs and kept hoping there would be some logic that I missed. Nope, never did make any sense.
And watching that trailer I notice that some of the Maniacs look a lot like Hellraiser Cenobites. I wonder who copied who.

I caught Neon Maniacs way back in the day on USA after a night out. It took me a long time to find out what I had actually watched that night.

That's where I first saw it too; on "Night Flight" or something and I could tell it had been edited so I wanted to see the "real" version.

"Neon Maniacs" apparently had a very troubled production history, which may account for some or all of its general incomprehensibility.... some info here: http://www.coolasscinema.com/2009/06/neon-maniacs-1986-review.html
I found it on Shout! Factory's streaming channel this afternoon. The picture quality was crap, but at least it appeared to be uncut (from what little I remember of seeing it back in the day)....

Marvel's Jessica Jones (Netflix)
Hard R-rated Marvel series, similar in approach to the Daredevil series from earlier this year but Jessica Jones has a distinctive flavor. Ritter is excellent as the title character and David Tennant (Doctor Who) makes a great slimy "big bad". Parents beware, a lot of humping going on in this series.

Oh wow. I didn't even know this was up and running. I'll have to check it out even though I am totally unfamiliar with the character.

I read the book years ago, so far I'm enjoying the TV adaptation.
