As it relates to making an announcement regarding one's coming out, I find it curious as to why Slobodanobopo would do that here? A lukewarm response to such an announcement probably could be as demoralizing as a total rebuke. I don't know... I don't recall him making some grand announcement per say. It was more like a passing statement when he was posting something else. "Blah blah blah, I finally came out, blah, blah blah." RattPoison is another old-timer that was fun to have around. He gave me some good recommendations over the years. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. i missed that too. Hmmmm. News to me. I've must have missed that one as well. Not that it makes a difference. I missed out on that one as well. Then again, there are stretches where I will take a long leave of absence from this place. I often refer to myself as the most unrecognizable poster on these boards, who has nearly 2,500 posts and seven years under my belt.

It was not big deal, Spec used to give him crap, he admitted he was gay and that he had a gentlemen over, the reason most of you don't remember because none of us cared. He could have said he was vegan, the response would have been the same. Everybody on this board is pretty open minded.

I don't know if he was expecting some kind of big response from folks here one way or the other, but noone seemed too fussed by the revelation. I didn't know him personally, so what he does in his personal life doesn't concern me. Seemed like a good kid though. At least in his musical tastes. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | A lot of us disliked Schmoopypoop when he first arrived. Age difference, maybe. Forums are tough like that. Anyway, pretty sure we all grew to like the kid. I'd hate to think he bailed because he felt he wasn't welcome due to being gay. =(
Rattpoison is one I've always been curious about. He didn't slowly stray; he just went from being an active forum member to never heard from again. Weird.
As for MC, I'm pretty sure he's mentioned that he's been hanging at other sites that cater more toward extreme metal. Not only does this forum lack the kind of members who can discuss that stuff, but the forum has been slowing down more and more as time goes by. Like most forums, probably dying a slow death thanks to sites like Twitter and Facebook.

| I missed that too about Schbopo. Whatever happened to Spec? I did a few trades with him years back and he was awesome. Even though I visit almost daily I don't always log in; but you grow accustomed to seeing the same screen names and you start to almost know what so and so is going to say about a given topic. | |

Yep, not just here but many of the forums I visit are down in posts over all. One in particular I have been a member of since around 1995 (it started out as a mailing list then was a forum in 98 or so). Had over 200 regular posters daily. The board is still there and I recognize the names. The last post is from me over a year ago asking where everyone went. The owner of the site replied via e-mail saying everyone moved over to the facebook group but I don't know much about it because I am not on Facebook or Twitter. Consider me a forum holdout. I'm a regular on about 5 forums and the most active of the bunch is the Steve Hoffman forums. I first went "online" around 1983 when I was 12 years old and used to post on bullentin boards. Man, those were the days, if someone else was on you had to wait your turn. One person at a time could be on it. Back when it was dial up you had to "call" the BBS and log in. Sometimes you had to leave it on autodial because it could take hours to get an open line.

Oh man, that brings back memories! I was active on a bunch of BBS services when I was in college in the late 80s. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Some forums still do well, but many don't. The Shock Totem forum is dead. It used to be really active, then eventually only the contest forum, which we only opened every other month, and the flash challenge forums remained active. Since I've put the magazine on hold for this year, there are no contests, so every other Saturday a handful of folks show up for the flash challenge. Aside from those few hours, it's dead dead dead. =(
The sad thing is, forums are better than social media. Not as immediate, but try finding an old conversation on Facebook or Twitter, you know. At least with a forum you can dredge up old conversations and topics. For me, that's far more appealing than conversations that zip by at light speed and are gone as quick as they arrive.

Yeah, I remember one time in the "Now playing" thread, someone posted Impaled - The Dead Shall Remain Dead, and manny said on the post, "That's it, no more hanging out with mc666, he is a very bad influence on you, young man."

The problem with a lot of online communities is that a lot of people tend to argue for the sake of arguing, and everyone on the receiving end gets defensive about it. The bigger your forum or social network, the more argumentative people you'll come across. No matter what your stance on anything may be, there will always be someone who comes to pick a fight with you. There exist very few civil forums anymore, let alone those focused on metal.

You posted an apparent non sequitur. The last several posts were from people who had been away for an extended period lamenting the fact that probably no one noticed they'd been gone and you came back with this post. If you are responding to an earlier post in this thread it would probably be a good idea to quote the thread to which your are responding otherwise everyone will just think the same thing: WTF is he talking about?!?!?!? _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
