| I think you're right about Greinke opting out because some foolish team will offer him a dumptruck full of money. I just don't think he's an "ace". His career ERA is 3.41, his WHIP is 1.19. Plus he's a bit of a head case; there's a reason why he's played for 4 teams in 12 years.
I think Greinke is a solid #2 or 3 starter but he's not worth the amount of money a team like Boston or New York will throw at him after this year. But he'd be a fool not to take it. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Just finished watching the Cardinals blow it in the 8th. I wasn't sure why we picked up Broxton in the first place and now I understand it even less. He gave up a 2 run shot in the 8th and STL lost 5-4. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Well that means the Pirates will lose tonight. Anytime they have a chance to gain a game on the Cards, they blow it. | |

| And we start a 3 game series against each other Tuesday. Good pitching matchups; Martinez vs Locke, Wacha vs Cole and Lynn vs Liriano. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| And I was wrong on that end. It certainly looked like it was going that way. Morton looked awful and the Pirates could barely muster a hit. Losing 5-1, it looked bleak. But somehow the Pirates were able to blow that game wide open. First with McCutchen's 2 run shot then a 9 run bottom of the 7th. If I hadn't seen it with my own eye's I'd never believe it.
And now the big series of the week out in St. Louis. I don't like the Locke/Martinez match up but the others should be very competitive.

| ...And we're off..
And true to form, Pirates score one in the first and the Cardinals come back with their own run in the bottom of the first. These teams just play each other soooooo close.
EDIT: Damn you Aramis Ramirez!!! He gets us again! I'm so glad he's retiring after this season.
EDIT2: After leaving guys on base the whole game the Cardinals finally plate 3 in the bottom of the 7th. 4-3 Cards heading to the 7th.
Just another Pirates/Cardinals game. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| That game went just about as I expected. Locke does that a lot. Looks really good for the first few innings then implodes and gives up a few runs. I figured the Pirates would be a little flat after those emotional games against the Dodgers but actually didn't look too bad in that aspect. | |

| Here we go again.
Tied at 2-2 in the 6th and both teams have left a ton of runners on base. These two teams are like mirror images of each other.
EDIT: Cards scored 2 in the bottom of the 6th and that's how it ended, 4-2 Cards. Another battle. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Looks like the Pirates aren't ready to play against the big boys. It's one thing to beat them at home, you need to beat them at their house too. You can't do that with errors, poor situational hitting and outfield blunders. Too bad. And what really sucks is that the Cubs are inching closer now too. | |

| Yeah, that was a goofy game. Grichuk misplayed a ball in center and let it get by and roll all the way to the wall and the Bucs scored a run. An inning later, Polanco does almost exactly the same thing in right and the Cards scored a run on it. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Pirates vs Cardinals - Game 3
Just what I was afraid of, chance to sweep the second place team and Lance Lynn is going to go out and lay a turd. He's done this before this year in sweep situations. It's already 4-0 in the bottom of the first.
EDIT: Time to watch Smackdown. A bunch of hard hit balls, misplays, a hit batsman and an error have the Bucs up 6-0 already in the first and the Cards are already going to the bullpen after Lynn only got 2 outs in the game. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Nice to know we can battle back too sometimes. It's now 7-5 Bucs after Pittsburgh scored 7 runs in the top of the first. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| What a bizarre game. The Cards looked out of sorts (Carpenter's throwing error, Molina dropping an easy throw out at the plate) and the Pirates were tagging Lynn hard. After putting up 7 in the first the Cards were able to pull close but the Pirates were able to put it away in the 9th. Hopefully they fare better against the Mets. | |

| The Pirates sure came out with their hitting shoes on yesterday. There were a bunch of bizarre plays and errors that helped them along but they sure lit up Lynn. And Lynn let all the weird crap get to him. He used to do that all the time; let his emotions affect his pitching. He's gotten much better at controlling that the last couple years but last night you could just see his frustration over the hard hit balls, misplays and errors. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Watched the Pirates beat the Mets 3-2 in 10 innings. They couldn't do much against Bartolo Colon, only scoring on a solo Walker shot in the 1st, but were able to get to their bullpen. 2 runs scored in the top of the 10th was what they needed, especially when Melancon gave up a run in the bottom. | |

| Jaime Garcia lowered is ERA to 1.57 going 8.1 innings allowing no earned runs. Rosenthal finshed up for his 36th save. Cards won 3-1 over the Marlins. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Pirates beat the Mets 5-3 in 14 innings. Now to try for the sweep today but I don't really like the pitching match up today, Locke vs Harvey. | |

| Well the Cards' defense (namely Kolten Wong) sucked and Martinez let it get to him. He was sailing along with a 3-1 lead in the 5th when Wong let a surefire doubleplay ball get through his legs. Martinez proceeded to allow 4 runs. Then in the 6th, Wong muffed another groundball and allowed a runner to score. It's 6-4 Marlins right now in the bottom of the 8th I see Pittsburgh is clobbering the Mets so it looks like they'll gain a game today. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Yeah the sweep has happened. Locke was surprisingly effective for 5 and a third innings and the bullpen took over from there. The Pirates were able to really get to the Mets bullpen after a 42 minute rain delay. And if the Cards do lose ,this is the first time since July 25th that the Pirates have won and both the Cards and Cubs lose. Just goes to show how tough the NL Central really is. | |

| Well that was the final. 6-4 Marlins. If the Cards had won they'd have swept the Marlins for the season, something that's next to impossible to do. Marlins scored 4 unearned runs. Thanks a lot Wong. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Dammit! I just read Randal Grichuk is going on the 15 day DL with an elbow strain.
I know every team goes through injuries but geez baseball gods, how about giving the old STL a break. We've lost our ace, our number 3 hitter and our number 4 hitter for most of the season. Who's next? Molina? Carpenter? _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
