| The Pirates are up against a guy making his 2nd major league appearance. We'll see how they can fare today. | |

| Well with minimal offense (only 3 hits), the Pirates were able to win 3-0 and get a series split with the Reds. Morton was really on today with 7 scoreless innings. Of course things had to get ugly with hit batters today. | |

| Yeah I saw there were basebrawls in the Pirates game and the Jays game. Boy, the Jays and Royals threw at each other all weekend. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Cardinals just won 3-2 on a walkoff RBI single by Brandon Moss.
The guy has been smoking the ball all weekend but before now had nothing to show for it.
The post-game interviews have been interesting. Matheny said he's never seen a new player so excited to be a Cardinal as Moss. And then they interviewed Moss and he just couldn't get the s**t-eating grin off of his face. I hope his excitement translates to some of the other members of the team who just seem to be mired down in depression (I'm looking at you Matt Carpenter). _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Got the Pirates vs Cubs on. What a lousy game. J.A. Happ (who they just got in a trade with Seattle) is taking Burnett's spot in the rotation while he's on the D.L. He looked horrible tonight giving up 4 runs. Meanwhile the Pirates only have 1 hit against Arrieta. Pathetic. | |

| Lackey gave up 3 runs in the first then shut down 15 in a row. Carpenter hit a 2 run shot to make it 3-2 but now it's the 9th and we're facing Chapman. Dammit! That's how it ended. 3-2. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

The consistently "over 100 mph" pitcher ? Good luck with that one

Usually sheer velocity doesn't phase the Cardinals but they just rolled over and died tonight. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| The Pirates ended up losing 5-0. It just wasn't their night. Hopefully Locke fares better tomorrow against Dan Haren. | |

| Dan Haren, another Cardinal farmhand who's carved out a nice career for himself elsewhere. We traded him to Oakland for Mark Mulder who promptly got hurt and stunk for the Cardinals. What a ripoff that deal turned out to be. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| They knocked Haren around a little (4 runs on 7 hits) but Jeff Locke, after looking phenomenal through the first 5 innings, let the Cubs tie the game on 2 home runs. Luckily, the Pirates were able to get to their bullpen and pulled out a 7-5 win. | |

| Got the Pirates vs Dodgers on and what a game. Kershaw was un-Kershaw-like giving up 4 runs (one on bases loaded walk) and Cole was able to match him pitch for pitch, more or less. Unfortunately, Soria let the Dodgers tie it up and it's now 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th.
Edit : And the Pirates have bases loaded and no one out and CAN'T SCORE. Terrible...

| I think Kershaw is overrated this year and I think Greinke has been overrated for his whole career.
Cards are up 6-0 in the 6th over the Brewers. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| The Pirates win it in the bottom of the 10th with a bases loaded no out single by Pedro Alvarez. Man that was a fun game to watch. | |

| Pirates beat the Dodgers today 6-5. Liriano didn't pitch very well (some sort of side discomfort) but did contribute today with a 3 run homer, the first of his career. | |

| I was watching that. I had to; it was on Fox Sports 1 where the Cardinal game was supposed to be. Fortunately I was able to flip over to Fox Sports Midwest to catch the beginning of the Cards game. Carpenter homered to lead off the game and it's currently 2-0 Cards in the third. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Garcia through 3 without a run (or getting hurt). That's 30 straight scoreless innings by Cardinal pitching; they haven't given up a run since the fourth inning of Wednesday night's 13 inning game. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I don't think the Pirates will be able to catch the Cards but they just need to keep plugging along and get that home wild card (although that didn't work out too well for them last year) | |

| Just watched the Cards finish of the Brewers 3-0. Third straight shutout for the Cardinals whose pitching hasn't been scored on since the 4th inning of Wednesday night's 13 inning victory over the Reds. 36 straight shutout innings.
This is why no other team's pitching scares me for post-season. Bring on the Kershaw/Greinke two-headed monster. Our TEAM ERA is now below 2.60. We might lose games in the post-season3-2 or 2-1 but I don't think anyone will out-pitch St. Louis. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Cards are up 6-0 in the 6th over the Brewers. Kershaw isn't overrated this year. He isn't the dominant pitcher overall like he has been the last couple of years. But he's still leading the NL in strikeouts. Greinke has been pretty dominant this year and I bet he opts out of his contract after this season.

I watched this game too. Latos didn't pitch well at all. The Dodgers problem is that if they can't hit it out they rarely score. They need more solid base hitting.
