Vinnie Vincent- Guitars From Hell

Will probably never get to hear it in actual finished form for a plethora of reasons, but damn it would be nice if it finally came out.

Apparently Tellurian recorded about 12 songs before they split in '83. I'd really like to hear them as the two that I have are great!

In the mid-1970s, The Osmonds planned a rock album with full make-up and costume gimmick like KISS.

This was at the same time that the Donny & Marie TV Show was just about to happen,
so I guess it was never even recorded , and the family went to work full time for the tv show instead.

That is so sad.

I'm sure the increase in their bank accounts negated any hard feelings about being forced to collaborate with outside writers.

I'm pretty sure Raging Slab takes the cake for shelved albums.

The members of the group lived together on the farm in a type of "communal" relationship and began recording their second RCA record, From a Southern Space, produced by Alex Perialis (Anthrax, M.O.D., S.O.D.). Executives at RCA were not pleased with the direction that the group was going with this recording and decide to withdraw their support for its release wrote:

The band reentered the studio to record their third RCA record Freeburden with producer Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Ozzy Osbourne, Chili Peppers) and during recording, and the group were utilizing the talents of Chili Pepper and Pearl Jam drummer, Jack Irons.[1] Once again their work is rejected by RCA. wrote:

They returned to the U.S. and began recording their second Def American (by now known as American Recordings) album. The group delivered Black Belt in Boogie, but the record was rejected by Rubin,[1] who reportedly told the group that he "didn't hear any songs" on it, and currently has not been released. wrote:

Remember Optimum Wound Profile or the Space Monkeys? Totally different genres for each artist, but their final albums were never released.

Cheap Trick went into the studio with Nirvana/Pixies/Breeders producer Steve Albini (also of Big Black) in 1998 and re-recorded a new version of their entire In Color album. To date only one track from it has been officially released (tho bootlegs abound) - the new version of "Hello There" was included in one of the "Rock Band" video games

From what i've heard, it wasnt just the music, but the lyrics for GOG were apparently EXTREMELY sexual in nature (though i wonder how thats different than some of their other lyrics). I doubt Geffen wanted to court any potential controversy.

I had no idea they did a re record of the whole album. Thanks, FF.

Some more info on that recording, courtesy of Wikipedia...

Quote :
The band's intention was to record the album on their own terms and for the songs to sound the way that they had originally intended.

Quote :
In April 2010, Rick Nielsen confirmed to the online music site Spinner that the band had in fact finished re-recording the album and planned to release the new version in "the not so distant future"

If they wait another 2 years, they can release it as a special 40th Anniversary edition. Razz

There are a ton of prog albums that I wish had actually made it past the conceptual phase.

One of my favorite King Crimson albums, Red (also one of their heaviest aside from Thrak), was originally conceived as having a companion album called Blue, which I would have ADORED. Sadly, Robert Fripp made the band "cease to exist" and it never came to fruition. Probably the closest anyone will ever hear to what he had in mind for Blue came out on his solo album, Exposure.

Likewise, Eddie Jobson formed a project called Zinc and released "The Green Album." There was some speculation that other colors were to follow (so he could have beaten Baroness and The Dear Hunter to the punch), but nothing else was ever recorded. It's such a weird album, it's a shame he never continued in that vein.

I like that Green album. I can't remember if him being in Yes(for a very short time) put Zinc on hold?

I always wonder what that would have sounded like: Jobson in Yes......

I always thought Jobson dropped the idea because it didn't sell terribly well and he went into soundtrack work.

I learned last night while watching 'Attack of Life: The Bang Tango Story' that the original band recorded a full 3rd album after Dancin' On Coals called Love After Death that got shelved by the record company due to changing times & tastes (ie the grunge attack).

It looks like it might have gotten limited release in Europe (or possibly leaked and bootlegged). You can listen to it here...

I remember coming across that album online somewhere a while back...can't remember if I tube'd any songs at the time or not, so will check it out. I'm surprised that a label like Perris or something never brought it back to life like they did with a bunch of the albums from the time that were shelved.

How was the Tango doc?

It's interesting enough if you have 90 minutes to kill. It's a very low-budget doc about their rise, fall and attempt to climb back on top. I think they were all a little delusional about just how "great" they were, but most of the band seemed to get over it and moved on. Fat Freddy and I both weighed-in on it in the "Recently Watched TV" thread.

I'm listening to this unreleased album now and while I'm enjoying it, the band makes it sound like this was going to be the album that put them over-the-top and household names. Truth is, no matter how good it was, there was no way these guys were going to survive the tidal wave known as grunge that washed all these guys off the musical map.

I can only assume that whomever owns the rights to the album is just letting it sit in a closet somewhere. Too bad. I'd buy it. It's a decent Bang Tango record.

Yeah, I didn't know about the Love After Death album either till I watched that Bang Tango doc. It looks like the album did indeed get a legit release in Europe on the Music For Nations label, but CD copies go for stoooopid $$ nowadays.

I've listened to it a couple of times on YouTube and I dig it. Certainly a lot better than what little I've heard from the Joe LeSte-only version of the band. (Ever heard their "From the Hip" album? Gack! The only good thing about that record was the hot chick on the cover.)

Yeah, when I get my tax refund I'll blow $266 on one of those. Laughing very hard

Don't be a fool. Get it used for only $65. Heck, get 2 for that price. It's sure to quadruple in value when Joe gets the original band back together to take the world by storm!!
