Also Neil Young-Chrome Dreams, I have an album by him by that title from the '70s but not sure how close it is to the one he intended on releasing.
Good call on Chrome Dreams; my favorite version of Powderfinger is on there. Another great shelved Young album is the live Time Fades Away. It's phenomenally raw and unnerving. Really wish they'd reissue that on CD. Last time I checked the vinyl is outstandingly pricey.

Strangely enough, a song that was going to be on the third Realm album actually had a music video:
If only there was a version of the song I could hear without the skip/sound drowning out for about a half second late in the song.

There's only two I can think of... Dark Angel - "The Atrocity Exhibition", and the never finished 3rd Crucified album.

The Best Kissers In The World had/have out now a third release for MCA get shelved entitled "Yellow Brick Road Kill" a promo only copy (s) can be found occasionally on Ebay and the like, even though now Gerald Collier has re-released the album.
New American Shame has a 2nd EP at least of tunes in the can but the band split prior to getting er done. The songs are all out on the inter web.
The Lemons first and far superior version of "Sturdy" with Jimmy Paulson on vox prior to his departure (I have the cassette promo of the release) to join TBKITW.
Top Heavy Crush have a full length and then some of songs on the/my shelf that would have been well received if they could have got there sh$t together. The studio produced/generated CD is limited to 6 copies.
Wasn't that Imagination album by Nelson a shelved album and the DGR follow up to their Self Titled?
Would love to hear that Grim Reaper record...
I would imagine there are a million such stories/bands who sold their souls for a shot at the brass ring only to be shelved as a write off by their respected label.

I had read in an interview with Bathory years ago about an unreleased album and Ep from back in the 80s. He didn't go into anymore detail than that, though.

Such an underrated band. You can get that album and an EP called Ape Shit here: http://www.animalbag.com/media
Definitely check out the God's Water folder and grab the Skin album and the tracks in Misc. Excellent band! I discovered them through this site. Guess they ran in the same local circles before Animal Bag got a deal and moved to LA.
I have the Skin cassette by God's Water. They played some of the same clubs as well as Animal Bag and did some shows together if I'm not mistaken.

I was on Metal Archives, and here is what is said on Blood on Ice:
Quote :
This album was originally recorded in 1989 and was intended to be the fifth Bathory album, but the album was not immediately released and had not been finished properly. Because of this, Quorthon was worried that it drastically presented a departure from the band's original black metal sound, so the project remained in the vault until it was finally redone in 1995. According to interviews, around 40% of the original material dating from the 80s was re-made - the remaining was untouched. This album falls right in line with the Viking era of Bathory.

Desperado, one of Dee Snider's post-Twisted Sister bands, had an album of theirs shelved for several years before it received an official release.
Also, nevermore listed that he was listening to Monster Voodoo Machine's Suffersystem album in a recent post.
Monster Voodoo Machine recorded an album called Turbine in the 1990s that was never officially released.

That was Desperado (which was Dee, ex-Maiden drummer Clive Burr, guitarist Bernie Torme, and bassist Marc Russell) not Widowmaker.
Desperado's debut album was supposed to come out on Elektra in '89 but the label canned it at the last minute.
Widowmaker was a different band/lineup (Snider and Russell being the only holdovers from Desperado) whose first album came out in 1992. Some of the tracks on that album (Blood & Bullets) were re-recordings of songs from the shelved Desperado record.

Rumor has it that Axl Rose and his band of merry misfits re-recorded the entire Appetite For Destruction album to screw Slash and those guys out of future royalties but the record company refused to release it because the original album still sells.

I remember that Aerosmith's record label pretty much rejected most of the songs that they had written for Get a Grip and made them bring in 'rent a hit' guys to help with the writing.
They also recorded an album's worth of material mixed by Glen Ballard that would become Nine Lives, but Sony wasn't happy with it and refused it. The band went back, re-worked some songs and wrote new material, this time with Kevin Shirley producing.
