And that is A ok with me! I am loving the new album! Yes they have stuck to the same formula for years and they do it well!
If you love any Tesla you will love this, music is great, lyrics are mature and show where they are today and I am enjoying it emmencely!
It will be in my most played list this year! The lyrics on this are almost personal to me. Songs like MP3 and how we have lost the simplicity of life, love the words here.
I hope these guys keep rockin for years to come!
Anyone else pick it up? Thoughts?

Only heard a few songs, but I agree, it sounds really good. It's on my long list.

I think this new album is gonna take a little time to sink in. I've played it through a few times and it's good while it's on, but nothing is jumping out at me or sticking in my mind after it's over. I have faith in the band that this is just a temporary thing. It'll catch on with repeated listens.

It's on my never ending shopping list. Tesla hasn't disappointed me yet.
I just recently filled one of the holes in my Tesla collection w/a used copy of Into the Now and I've been playin' that one a lot lately.

I'm a big Tesla fan, and I like it quite a bit; but I will say that relative to their full catalogue I think it ranks quite low. The album overall is not nearly as good as Into the Now or Forever More, much less the classic albums.
That said I'm looking forward to seeing them in August and hearing some of these songs live! I'm hoping they decide to do "Rise and Fall" or "Time Bomb" on the upcoming tour.

So how is the rocker-to-ballad ratio? I keep hearing how it has way too many lite songs.

Personally, I think it's their worst album. That doesn't mean it's bad, but it's certainly not as good as past albums. Too many ballad-like songs on this one, and personally I don't think Tesla does ballads very well. They have some great ones, but overall I think their ballads are kind of lifeless compared to their more rockin' songs.
So yeah, not a bad album, per se, but definitely their worst in my book.
And Jeff's voice is a bit annoying. He's starting to sound a hell of a lot like this chick:

It's maybe 1/4 or 1/3 "rocker" songs. Definitely on the lighter side.

That's a bit disappointing, TBH. I'm with Eyesore; their ballads tend to be a bit underwhelming.

I think they have some great ballads, relatively speaking. Their previous two albums had excellent ballad-singles: Caught in a Dream, and Fallin' Apart.

Might pick this up if I can find it for a reasonable price. Though like the most recent Aerosmith it appears to suffer from please play this horrid ballad on the radio or whatever.
Still hope they pull this one off and sell a few albums - Is that even possible these days?

Really, really good album. Classic Tesla to me. I wasn't even looking forward to this album because I lost interest in the band after two cover albums, Forever More and Twisted Wires. Good thing I checked it out.

I'd take out a few of the slower-ballady songs and replace with some more rockers. And cut the track listing down a few notches. 14 tracks drag it out longer than it needs to be.

Just finished listening to it; I'm with Eyesore here. I'm also failing to see how this is 'typical' 'classic' Tesla. Typical Tesla had twice the speed and energy of this. It has little to do with their classic sound. But it is enjoyable, if not a bit mediocre, with a classic rock vibe, but the excessive number of ballads kill it. Overall, just a generic album with nothing special to offer.

TESLA's new studio album, "Simplicity", sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 24 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on June 10 via Tesla Electric Company Recording's arrangement with Entertainment One Music and distribution.

It has all the right parts, just needs a little tweaking. Swap out 'MP3' as the lead-in. Decent tune, but not as an opening track. 'Ricochet' works better. Add in 'Taste My Pain', and trim off some of the ballads. 10 or 11 strong tracks and this is another home run. As is is now, I have a hard time getting through the whole thing without spacing out.

Agreed: it is mind-boggling why Ricochet is not the opening track here, and Taste My Pain would have been one of the better songs on the album had it been included.

That slow riff on "MP3" is excellent, though, even if the song is at least a decade late.
