Yea, being a dad and having girls definitely puts all sorts of things into a different perspective for me.

Hello Kitty meets Rammstein.
Not my thing but if the kiddos are listening to this instead of rap, it's a winner with me…..

I wouldn't see this as creepy necessarily. I mean, if I had daughters (or kids at all, for that matter) and they were into this or even saw this as something to emulate, that's a lot less creepy than young girls who looked at Britney Spears as someone to be and who, god forbid, decided to try to DRESS like her. I mean, at least the girls in Baby Metal are fully clothed... Even if I do have to cop to the fact that the band name does kind of trip my creep-o-meter.

The gothic lolita thing may be some perv's wet dream, but for the average person, it's actually a hell of a lot more modest and even probably innocently FUN for a kid to latch on to than dressing like a truck stop whore for make believe time.

Sadly, at least in the US, it's probably because we've been so inundated with these weird pop trends that generations of kids, and particularly young girls have latched on to, that this - because it doesn't fit the pattern - actually feels "wrong" to us.

Just my take.

New hype video for the gals' "World Tour" (France, Germany and the UK).

With all the current Internet love for this "band" I'm surprised that nobody is trying to bring them to the U.S. yet.

I like how this video credits two out of the three girls with "Scream and Dance" Laughing very hard

aaaaaaaand...nope, I still don't "get" it. Laughing very hard

Scary things is I might actually see them..... I may be going to Sonisphere in the UK this year and they are playing......

I actually watched that whole clip - looks like they put on a good show, innovative in the way that they pulled from multiple metal genres, Japanese pop music, huge concerts, broadway shows and multiple aspects of Japanese culture to create a live show.

From what I have read, they rarely sing live. It's all lip-synced.

Who?? Never heard of them.

If I do go, I'll skip Friday night since Sabbath, Soundgarden, Motorhead are playing another festival in London. Sounds like a MUCH better line up then The Prodigy, Limp Bizkit who are playing Sonisphere that night.....

As someone who listens to an unhealthy amount of Korean pop I really want to like this! There's something distinct about this Japanese style of pop singing that grates on me though.

So...I broke down and watched a few of these since this thread keeps popping up. Much to my surprise, it's very catchy. I didn't expect it to be so fast and heavy. It's like Nightwish jacked up on pop-rocks and helium. I still don't know what to think, and I still feel vaguely uncomfortable watching, but it's not bad.

Are you guys going to pull my "metal" card?  sigh

With all my non-metal interests, if my "metal" card hasn't been taken by now, I'm sure you're safe Scott. Very Happy

I did a terrible thing today and downloaded the full Babymetal album: I didn't realize there was growling on some of these songs--such a bizarre assemblage of genres!

If and when BabyMetal ever get a U.S. record deal, I want to see these two quotes on the "hype sticker" on the front of their CD. Laughing very hard

Saw Babymetal at Sonisphere UK on Saturday. Easily the most metal thing I've ever experienced, a genuine highlight of the festival for me. Clearly more metal bands need choreographed dance moves.

I forget if I mentioned this earlier in the thread (and am too f$@#ing lazy to check), but the Japanese never cease to amaze me with their ability to take a musical idea, distill it into a formula, and still have it work.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm in the middle of ripping a ton of Ayumi Hamasaki to my iPod...

I decided to listen to the full album with an open mind after Ryan Van Poederooyen posted on his facebook about how he had been completely blown away by just how good the musicians in this band were when they played together at Sonisphere. Plus, my love for happy, silly pop music is not really a secret.

The verdict is that, as suspected, the vocals make it waaay to infantile for me to take seriously, but there are some interesting ideas and some real aggression behind the candy floss. Like a Hello Kitty machine gun. I can see why kids would love this and I kind of hope that they do.

And for those of you who think that there is no such thing as a Hello Kitty machine gun.

"Karate", a brand new song from the Japanese teenage girl pop metal band BABYMETAL, has been made available via iTunes. The track is taken from the group's second album, "Metal Resistance", which will be released on April 1 via RAL/Sony Music Entertainment in the U.S. and earMUSIC in Europe.

Of the new album, BABYMETAL mastermind Kobametal stated: "As prophesied by the Fox God, a new album will be released on April 1st, 2016, also known as the Fox Day.

"Since the release of BABYMETAL's debut album in 2014, we have been racing across the globe non-stop on our world tour. Through the last tour, I have come across people from all over the world and have had the chance to feel that miraculous moment when everyone came together via BABYMETAL.

"Our new song 'The One' contains lyrics that speak of uniting the world, or a crowd favorite at concerts, 'Road Of Resistance', that never fails to bring our fans together. Every BABYMETAL song makes up this extraordinary story.

"I continue to believe that the songs of BABYMETAL continue to push them forward to discover new possibilities.

"All I can say right now is for all of you to wait patiently for the coming of the Fox Day."
