Not from me, I want that set, great price too! The best part? The CDs may be in cardboard envelopes, but they actually folded the things correctly. You know those little tabs they fold in so the thing can be glued together? For reasons that escape me completely, they always put them so that, if you wanted to have them touching the label side of the disc (seems an invitation to scratching the crap out of your CDs to not), you have the disc in "backwards," with the silver side facing the front of the sleeve. The Abba set? Reversed so the label side goes in facing the front cover. This may border on OCD... - jstate wrote:

I hit up the Soundgarden location in Fells point. They're not the greatest for metal, but they do get some odd stuff in as new releases and are one of those awesome shops that put CDs out as they get them - so you stand a fair chance of scoring new music prior to the official release date there. I have heard that R&T used to be pretty awesome. They periodically manage to be awesome by selling some batch of used CDs at well below what they're actually worth, but for the most part, they're just like any FYE (which I think owns them now if I'm not mistaken).

Yeah I haven't heard them in ages, so it was great to revisit. That UO is so warm and crunchy.

| The Heavy Metal Box Set (Rhino) 2007 4-CD box set the chronicles the history of heavy metal from 1968 to 1991. The set comes in an amp shaped box complete with a volume know that "goes to 11" a gorgeous full-color book with essays, interviews and track by track analysis by Martin Poppoff. Taking on a project like this must have been quite the chore, especially cutting it down to only four discs. There are some very obvious omissions, apparently because some bands refused to be included. This includes three of the biggest godfathers of heavy metal, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, & Ozzy-era Black Sabbath. A few other minor "mistakes", but otherwise a great set on the chronology of heavy metal. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| I got a promo copy of that box set sent to me from a friend that used to work in the PR department at Rhino. Yea, a few glaring omissions, but a couple of hidden jems too.
He was also the guy that told me the story of dealing with Sharon Osborne when they were putting together this box set. She was making so many demands and bossing people around that the people at Rhino gave up and skipped right over including any Sabbath/Ozzy music rather than deal with her. While I can't speak for Zep or Deep Purple, you can directly blame Sharon for that particular oversight. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

And Robert Plant just doesn't like Led Zep being called metal. He can be an ass like that.

And so catchy too. Hard to get it out of your head. Could never figure out how that didn't become a monster record for them. Especially in those times. And yet they get a "hit" with what I felt was a fairly boring Neil Diamond cover. The mysteries of the musical universe. - Quote :

They periodically manage to be awesome by selling some batch of used CDs at well below what they're actually worth, but for the most part, they're just like any FYE (which I think owns them now if I'm not mistaken). I used to love Soundgarden's dump bins. And they were a cool place for dvds too. Other than that I thought they were not great with their prices and selection. Not to mention the way they arranged the store. Certainly not earning their title of "Best In Baltimore" IMO. Of course this would've been over a decade ago. R&T back in the day was incredible. .99 bins filled with pre-releases and promos. 2.99 bins filled with 80's metal goodness. Not to mention the twice yearly buy one get one sales. Their locations at Towson and Glen Burnie were my must hit spots. But on those sales weekends I'd just run the loop of all their locations and often see a number of the same faces doing the same. Good Times. Also the only place of business where an employee asked me out while conducting the transaction. And for some reason to this day I still hold onto my discount card.
