I actually still have that tape. I'm not even sure if it still works.

I still have it and it still works, actually. I rewatched it last year when I was making my way through the Heisei series.

My best friend in high school is actually related to Newland (creator of Bambi v Godzilla) and I always heard about it growing up, fascinated by the premise but was always refused a viewing. A decade later, surfing the internet, I suddenly remembered it and realized I could look the damn thing up on YouTube. Needless to say, I was Rolling On the Floor Laughing.

I suppose product tie ins are inevitable, but I wasn't expecting Godzilla to be a shill for Snickers...

People at work have been asking me if I'd seen this ad but since I only watch sports and news I hadn't seen it yet. Pretty funny! Thanks for posting it.

I sure hope this doesn't take the same approach to showing the Big G that Pacific Rim did to showing its monsters. PR hid all it's monsters in either smoke, water or darkness. Very few clear shots of the Kaiju.
This is my take after watching the two trailers a few times each. It wasn't until very late in Pacific Rim that we got clean looks at the Kaiju. I really hope they don't do the same to the Big G here. The first 15-20 minutes, I'm cool if they obscure him a bit or whatever, but after that they better show him in all his glory. They do that, and I'll be happy as a pig in shit.

Here is the international trailer which features a few different shots not seen in the US trailer, including a shot of one of the other kaiju.
I'm glad they've gone old school with the trailers and not given away too much.

That was what I was thinking. In one of the early leaked trailers there was also a shot of a dead multi-legged creature.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if it is Rodan. Toho has always wanted exhorbitant amounts of money per character when licensing them out to the west (hence the reason why in the Marvel and Dark Horse comics the other creatures from the Godzilla universe never appeared).

Caveat - I'm ridiculously easy to please when it comes to movies...
There's no way I'm not going to love this. Can't wait!
And DAMMIT!!!! They juggled the schedule at work and now I'm on-call the week this opens! Oh well, maybe I'll see it a week later and finally not end up in a seat in front of some kid who kicks the back of my seat.

Director Gareth Edwards has stated that if Godzilla is a success and they green light a sequel his plan is to do a variation on Destroy All Monsters for the second film.

If this new one lives up to expectations, I'd be all over a Destroy All Monsters-type sequel. That's my favorite movie from that era of Big G movies; the monster cameos are priceless.

I really have to give the marketing push for this film an A+. Because they've chosen to just give little quick glimpses of G in each of these short trailers it really cranks up the anticipation factor. Too many trailers these days give away too much from the film, the approach taken for Godzilla I think is far more effective.
Plus "our hero" leans in the camera and hollers in this trailer!
