I love and hate (at the same time) that this teaser doesn't really give you a good look at The Big G.
It gets you all built up and you're going "Oh, crap, this is it, here he comes! Here he comes!" ....aaaaand, nope. Just a quick silhouette. Dammit!!! Haha

It pretty much has to be. That thing was a mess. I'm really looking forward to this one.

But if that was a new King Kong remake, you'd be going bananas over it !

I sure hope this doesn't take the same approach to showing the Big G that Pacific Rim did to showing its monsters. PR hid all it's monsters in either smoke, water or darkness. Very few clear shots of the Kaiju.

The approach to the effects look quite different than Pacific Rim. That film had a very stylized approach and I think Godzilla will play more toward realism. Also, in PR the focus was squarely on the robots. They're not going to show a complete view of the monster in a teaser trailer, I'm actually surprised they showed as much as they did.
In reading interviews with Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen they've both stated to expect a very serious film that focuses on the human characters coping with the disaster. And they have both said to expect actual characters, not the 2-dimensional caricatures that most action and horror films rely on these days.

Same here. I'm looking forward to the new film!! The trailer looks great!! I'm like FF and wish there would have been more than the quick glimpse of Godzilla.

I get excited when a genre film is taken this seriously and has assembled an impressive cast and crew like this one has. If the tone of the film looked similar to Godzilla 1998 then I wouldn't go anywhere near a theater.

Why would you send in a HALO jump with flares? Oh right, it looks cool, that's why.
Also, I cannot wait to see this one. I am a huge G-fan and I hope they get it right.

I felt like as cool as 'Pacific Rim' was, they just sort of ran out of ideas on how to make additional kaiju awesome, so they hid them more.
Killer trailer, this, but will it go places that something like 'Cloverfield' teased?

I hadn't thought of that but you could very well be right. Hollywood's creative minds are so stagnant that it wouldn't surprise me. They should have consulted the creators of Ultraman who presented new Kaiju every week. Yeah some of them looked silly but weed through all the Ultraman episodes (not just the several years that were generally released in the US) and you find all kinds of diverse monster configurations.
I think SD was right; the main focus for Pacific Rim was the robots; the kaiju were more of an afterthought.

Yea. It's looks kinda neat and all, but it's just not really my thing. I don't know that I've ever watched a full Godzilla film in my life. I have vague memories as a kid seeing them on Saturday afternoon Creature Double Features, but thats about it.
I view a reboot like this the same way you look at a 3rd-rate 80's band reuniting and putting out new music. Who cares?
If you guys are excited, cool. It's not something I'm gonna lose sleep over.

Gareth Edwards (director of the new Godzilla movie) has stated that this Godzilla isn't just true to the 1954 creature but that it IS the 1954 creature in the new movie (though he didn't elaborate on how). The opening segment of the film will take place in 1954 and will be in B&W prior to moving to present day and color.
In talking about the tone/feel of the movie Gareth has stated to expect a classic 1970s style event movie, he said the tone he was going for was a cross between Close Encounters and Apocalypse Now.

Close Encounters and Apocalypse Now. That's both confusing and awesome. I feel like a kid in anxious await for this movie.

I'm fairly stoked for this! Always loved me some Godzilla. That quick silhouette and classic-style roar had me thinking 'F*ck yah'!
