- I think I have four that I find easy to name:
Blind Guardian - Imaginations from the Other Side
Dio - Holy Diver
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
Savatage - Wake of Magellan
The order is irrelevant, but these are my favourite albums, and pretty much set in stone. After that there's a tie with about 50 albums that I find to be just perfect 10/10.
I've managed to figure out a few more absolute top favourites that deserve to be singled out:
Angel Dust - Enlighten the Darkness
Skyclad - A Semblance of Normality
Valley's Eve - Deception of Pain
Iced Earth - Night of the Stormrider
If I make a top ten list, it changes every time around, but those albums will be there more often than not. But not every single time unlike the four I mentioned earlier.
That Angel Dust album is diverse and exciting. It goes through a lot of moods and is just an epic set of songs. I like all their "new" era albums, but this one stands out for me personally.
As for the Skyclad album, the year 2004 is a bit of an anomaly in my listening habits. I was a foreign exchange student and didn't pack music with me, so I only ended up listening to new albums I bought in the Netherlands. It really helped me create a special bond for this particular Skyclad CD. It's an awesome, heavy album, and the melodic singing of Kevin Ridley brings the band a different feel. This is off-topic, but I have to mention it was also a thrilling experience to later come back home to my CD collection and once again play my old favourites.
Valley's Eve is something I listen to a lot, and I've turned into a big Mystic Prophecy fan lately (last ~5 years), and Deception of Pain is just as good as the best MP albums, except it has superior lyrics, a theme, guitar work by Frank Pané and a running time of nearly 70 minutes. Just a massive album.
Iced Earth's Stormrider album... my love for the band goes deep, but this one is not just their best, but also my first exposure to the band.
