I can't recommend Hellraiser: Inferno enough. I'm with everyone here about the whole franchise; 1 was a masterpiece, 2 had potential, then it all went to shit. But Inferno stood out, and what Keith is talking about makes sense because the script uses the Cenobites as mere boilerplate, even though Pinhead is in there quite a bit more the these latest entries. Regardless, it's a competently made movie with strong acting and a complex script for DTV material. LOTS of unsettling gore, and has a certain style to it. Derrickson moved on to Exorcism of Emily Rose and the Day the Earth Stood Still remake, can't remember what he did after that. He's a strong director, albeit he never quite hits the mark with his films, but I would venture to say that this is his best one.
It sure was a huge shock when I saw it. I was expecting more microwaved, melted cheese. Instead a got a solid 90 minutes of a fairly intense yarn.

I can find something to like in the first 4 entries; after that...not so much. But make no mistake, I own all of 'em.

The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964)
Hammer Studios' sequel to their 1959 Mummy film is pretty run-of-the-mill stuff but it's fun to watch in a kitschy-cool, retro Halloween sort of way. When turn-of-the-century archaeologists unearth an Egyptian mummy and bring it back to England with plans to take it on the road, the usual nonsense about ancient curses comes back to bite everyone in the ass.
This one took a while to get going but once the Mummy started shambling around London strangling unlucky people I was entertained.

SCHLOCK-Tober continues with...
Ice Cream Man (1995)
Clint (Ron's Brother) Howard stars in this kitschy-on-purpose (at least, I think it was on purpose) horror comedy cult classic about a psychotic purveyor of frozen desserts whose 'secret ingredient' is ... well, you can probably guess. Cheap, gory nonsense that also stars David 'TMNT II' Warner, Olivia 'Romeo & Juliet' Hussey, David 'American Werewolf In London' Naughton, Jan-Michael 'Airwolf' Vincent, and a whole lotta other people who probably should've known better.
Fun fact: director 'Norman Apstein' is better known as Paul Norman, who's directed hundreds of porn films. Lord only knows what possessed him to take on this project, but to this day 'Ice Cream Man' is his only non-adult film credit.

Pirates vs Cardinals..... in one word-disappointning
Too bad. I do have to say that the Pirates had a great season and I hope it's only the beginning and not just a flash in the pan season. And I certainly hope they don't go another 20 years without a winning season. Good Luck to the Cardinals !

They won't; they have too good a young nucleus of players to build around. I think the NL Central is going to be a major battleground for the next several years; I don't see the Pirates, Reds or Cardinals going away any time soon. And if the Brewers get better? Sheesh...

I don't think it's on Netflix or Hulu at the moment, you might want to check out the HBO website. There are 2 seasons so far.

A show that both of you should look into would be "House of Cards" (Netflix is the distributor). It's F*cking brilliant! I watched all 13 episodes in about three days about two months ago. I can't give it enough praise. Two great established vets in that of Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, a really good young actress in Kate Mara, and a ton of new hidden talent, who I'm thinking will be getting recognition for years to come.
