I had to Google Duck Dynasty to see what it was. Sadly it's not a remake of the 80's soap using ducks as the cast, that would've been great!
Back on planet earth (both of them)
My Brit Marling obsession continues! Good movie.

Rainy Saturday yesterday...lotsa movie watchin'.
With the kids: "An American Tail" (1985)
In this animated flick from Steven Spielberg and Don "All Dogs Go To Heaven" Bluth, little Fievel Mousekowitz emigrates from Russia to New York at the turn of the 20th century. Along the way he gets separated from his family and when he finally reaches America he learns that the streets aren't quite "paved with cheese" as he'd been promised. A fun movie that also serves as a nice little history lesson for the young'ins.
"Fathom" (1967)
Racquel Welch stars as professional sky-diver "Fathom" Harvill, who gets mixed up with spies and jewel thieves while on tour in Spain. This campy spy spoof (obviously inspired by the James Bond series) has a silly plot but plenty of gorgeous Spanish scenery - and of course lots of revealing shots of Welch herself, who was quite possibly the hottest woman in the world at this time. (Seriously, fellas. She's so hot it's stupid.) Watch it for the eye candy, don't worry about the plot.
"Cat People" (1982)
Natassia Kinski and Malcolm McDowell star in this kiinky, artsy, new-wavey update of the 40s horror classic as brother and sister carriers of an ancient feline curse, which proves to be fatal to a number of New Orleans citizens. Lotsa style and plenty of gratuitous nudity and gore. Cool stuff.

And a great theme song by David Bowie.

That, too. :-)
If memory serves, Bowie was supposed to star in the movie too but couldn't due to scheduling conflicts. He would've played the Malcolm McDowell role.

American Tail has been one of the few films I feel has been unfairly tossed away by the critics. It's every bit as good as the older Disney productions, has an incredible score by James Horner, is beautifully rendered, I could go on. Not to mention the subject matter which no one would've dreamed of writing into animated form. Great, poignant feature that has been entirely misunderstood and underrated.

Watched 'Beautiful Creatures' after debating with myself for 3 weeks on how many makeout sessions I'm prepared to sit through. I'm not supposed to like this, but I found it to be equal parts cheesy and charming, and since I am the person who liked 'Les Miserables' better than 'Avengers', there you go.
'Les Miserables' is mindblowing, by the way.

I really enjoyed Beautiful Creatures, better-than-average dialogue, very nice production values and set design and overall I think they captured the right tone for the material.
Plus, that sequence in the church between Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson is awesome, I'd recommend the film just for that.

Breaking Bad.
On a related note, congrats to Anna Gunn (Skylar White) and her Emmy win for best supporting actress. Even better, it looks like the best show in television history got best drama.
One episode left...

I don't know if I'd go as far as "best television show in history", but I'm glad it is receiving much deserved accolades.
I was happy to see Jeff Daniels win for The Newsroom.

Stuck In Love (2013)
Good drama/comedy with a first rate cast including Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly (who is excellent), Lily Collins (Phil's daughter), Logan Lerman (Perks of Being A Wallflower) and Kristen Bell. First time writer/director Josh Boone gets the characters just right and has a feel for constructing realistic relationships. The film could have been tightened by dropping a couple unnecessary subplots but it doesn't detract much from the whole. Not perfect but a promising, smartly written debut.

Seems strange that they would give the award to WKRP in Cincinnati after all these years!
But yes, I'm still glued to Breaking Bad

"Silent Hill" (2006)
Bizarre horror/thriller (based on a series of video games) about a little girl who sleepwalks and has recurring nightmares about a town called "Silent Hill." Her adoptive mother decides to take her to the now-abandoned ghost town for a bit of "shock therapy" but soon gets more than she bargained for when her car crashes and her daughter disappears into the fog. While searching for her, Mama runs into zombies, monsters, demons and a crazed religious cult ... and yeah, believe it or not, it just gets weirder from there.
This flick piles on the spooky atmosphere in spades but the story got more and more confused the longer the movie went on. Fortunately the occasionally-disturbing visuals and cool FX (plus an awesomely cool ultra violent gory finale straight outa "Hellraiser") keep it from turning into a slog.
Your mileage may vary depending on your familiarity with the video game source material.

I would be down with this as best tv show of all time. My brother's writing partner is a relative of Hugh Wilson. I've been trying for years to get him to see about obtaining the actual broadcast episodes. Sadly hasn't happen yet.

- Olympus Has Fallen. Didn't expect much. It was a decent popcorn flick. - Oblivion. Not a Tom Cruise fan but I liked this one a lot. The score is excellent.
Recent TV...
- Sleepy Hollow. Caught the first episode on Hulu yesterday. Pretty good. Something I'll keep up with assuming new episodes keep getting posted to Hulu. - The White Queen. Watched the first episode with a friend yesterday. Borrrrrrinnnnng.
