For the last few days I've been spinning both "Skyforger" and "Tales From..." constantly. I hadn't listened to a whole lot of Amorphis previously, but it's just blowing me away. The playing is really tight, moody and incredibly catchy. What're the best of the rest of their catalog?

Get Silent Waters, I love that album! Also check out The Karelian Isthmus which is almost as good as Tales... but without the keys. Also, if you like prog you need to get Elegy. And also the EP Black Winter Day (which contains material left off of Tales...).

Elegy is the masterpiece IMO, one of the 25 best albums I've ever heard. I liked Eclipse and Beginning of times as much as Skyforger, I thought they were all great.

I'm going to check some of these out today. There's really nothing better than the times where you first start really getting into a band and discovering their music for the first time, is there? I just snagged "Elegy" for the ride to work this morning. "Silent Waters" is next.

I'm gonna say 'Tuonela' and 'Eclipse'. The most recent two have been a bit vanilla and too formulaic.

I like pretty much all eras of Amorphis. The only album I find a little weak is 'Far From The Sun'...

Wow. I'll have to give Elegy another try. It just didn't grab me like their other stuff I've heard. I'm listening to Silent Waters right now and am loving it, so maybe it was just too early in the morning or something.

The Karelian Isthmus, Priveledge of Evil and Elegy are all great aside from the Tales of a Thousand Lakes. The rest I never cared about and still don't. But those 1st 4 releases are all classic!

In my mind, Amorphis haven´t any bad album in their back-catalog. As Shawn wrote, the Far From The Sun album was not so good as the others.
Amorphis has 3 eras
1st Era was the Death Metal era with Tomi Koivussari als singer (- 1995) 2nd era was with Pasi Koskinen (1996-2004) 3rd era is with Tommi Joutsen (since 2005)
My favourites of these finnish band are: Elegy, Tales From The Thousand Lakes and the Circle (2013)
If you like the old stuff, but the vocals of the current singer (Tommi Joutsen), you can try he Magic And Mayhem album. On this Best Of Album, the songs are completely new recorded.

I listened to Elegy a second time and it is really good. I'll probably have to pick that one up soon.

In my sale, I will have Karelian Isthmus, Elegy (reissue w/ bonus tracks), Eclipse, Silent Waters, Skyforger, Magic And Mayhem (re-recordings), and The Beginning Of Times. For anyone interested. Post which one(s) you want so others will know what is and isn't being considered. I can PM prices. Once I have a complete list for my sale, all inquires and price requests will be in the Metal Market.
I know this is not the place for selling, but I want to get the ball rolling while I'm compiling my list.

I wasn't familar with this band so I went to YouTube and listened to this song being that it appears to be the most current thing they've done. I am posting it just in case there might be others like me who were unfamilar with this band as well.
With all the talk about "Elegy' I went and scoped this out. What a difference

I think these two are some of the finest work Amorphis has done:

+1.
I just can't get Skyforger out of my cd player. I've had this for a few weeks now and it's one that I just can't seem to get enough of, which is rare these days. It's quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite albums, and I have a feeling it will be go to disc for a long time to come. There's so much variety, especially with a song like My Sun and the piano, my favorite off this album. It's just absolutely beautiful and emotional. Great, great song.

Elegy is definitely their masterpiece, though many would argue The Karelian Isthmus is just as good. Hard to disagree, I guess. But for me, Elegy is the first album I heard from them...and it blew me away.
