Arch era is respected by me...great music in that era...but from a personal taste standpoint, I prefer the Alder era...

I like both eras a whole lot. I think the guitar work got a lot better during the Alder years.

No comparison. Fates Warning smokes Queensryche on all levels.

It's hard for me to be objective here. The Warning, RFO and Mindcrime are some of my favorite albums. I will say Fates stayed more consistent.

Agreed. The EP and The Warning are classic and both RfO and O:M are great, but nothing can compete with Fates with Arch. Besides, post-O:M 'Ryche is absolute garbage.

Of the albums FW did after Arch left I really like No Exit, but the other records are just too finnicky progressive for my taste. I guess Arch is what makes the older albums so special. Sure, the songs would be great with another vocalist, but Arch's vocal acrobatics and lyrics just makes songs like Guardian and The Apparition (to name my two favorite FW tracks) special. They would definitely miss that "extra something" that Arch added.

Oh well, American 80s prog metal KILLS!!! 🤘

Yeah, they wouldn't be half as good with another vocalist besides Arch. The other musicians were younger and were still growing at their craft.

I've seen both FW and the Ryche play live before and both bands are great!
