St. Anger. The *ping* of the snare drum hits an audio tone in my head and causes me physical pain. It really hurts my ears to listen to it. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Ehhh, I like 'em both. I voted GnR because that album blew me away when it was released. However, when I am in the mood for that style, I actually tend to listen to bands like LA Guns, Dirty Looks, Broken Teeth, etc. I've been burnt out on Appetite for a long time and rarely listen to it anymore. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Appetite is a superb record. Side Two especially. Rocket Queen is an all time favorite of mine.
I like LA Guns but they were a b-league band compared to GnR.

| LA Guns easily. While Appetite is an obvious classic it's also the only GnR album I like. I like lots of LA Guns albums. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I bought Appetite on cassette when it came out, I liked it but never considered it earth-shattering or anything. Then it got overplayed and I grew incredibly sick of it. Never bought another GNR release and haven't heard Appetite all the way through since 1988 or so.
I seem to remember having a promo copy of the first L.A. Guns record but it didn't make an impact on me.

| The first LA Guns album is kind of weak. I really enjoy the next 3 or 4 though. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

It was pretty easy for me to dismiss them in 1987 as well. So the 12 year old kid goes...... Play with my Tonka Toys ? G.I Joes action figures ? or put on a G-n-R album ? _________________

| If the question was G-n-R vs L.A Guns as bands, I'd pick L.A Guns. But being that I was a heroin addict hanging out/playing on The Strip in the mid 80's, it makes it easy to relate to the subject matter of the songs on "Appetite" in a very personal manner. A real game changer so-to-speak. Did burn out occur ? Hell Yeah ! _________________ | |

I fear he is! And I totally agree with his post serious or not. I call this "Boston Syndrome". Shoot your load on your first album then suck on every album after that. That's GnR in a nutshell for me. Over a series of albums, LA Guns was much more consistent than anything GnR produced after Appetite IMO. Yeah, that Appetite album really WOWed the world but after that....meh. LA Guns never hit a homerun like GnR did but if I evaluate the full body of work I still go with LA Guns by a mile. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I agree that G&R only did one decent record but that was the record being asked about in this question. L.A Guns or The Spaghetti Incident would get a different answer. | |

| Eh, I'll go with G n R. Like already stated , Appetite is an iconic album and a classic. After that they were hit or miss song wise. L.A. Guns ,while a good band, just were a "b-league" team like Witchfinder stated (maybe a bit extreme but the point is taken) and their debut wasn't up to snuff. I think their follow ups were better. | |

I definitely agree. If one's only exposure to LA Guns is the debut I don't think one has an accurate picture of LA Guns sound. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Good point! I guess I misread the original post. And you're right, if we're just talking about Appetite vs LA Guns ST, it's a landslide for GnR. After that, all bets are off... _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

After that, all bets are off... ^^this^^ I personally dislike both bands but between those two cds, I would say GnR--based on impact it had when released (but I just dislike Axl's voice---just horrible imo--although I may be able to stomach Mr. Brownstone). If I was going to be forced to listen to one, I would choose LA Guns.

Absolutely - Anything by Nirvana or TooL but Nevermind takes the every time. I can remember the first time that I heard "smells Like Teen Spirit", the radio DJ played it right after "Paradise City" and made a big enormous deal about this new up-and-coming band called Nirvana. Following after "Paradise City", "Smells Like Teen Spirit" sounded pretty lame and pathetic to these (then) 7th grade ears. I voted LA Guns. GnR made a great album but looking back, I don't see what the big deal was. Granted, I did not grow up with Appetite either. I liked Appetite quite a bit (but how many times can you hear Mr.Brownstone and still keep your sanity ) and I like the S/t LA Guns album as well, but... If I am gonna listen to LA Guns, it's "Cocked and Loaded" if I am gonna listen to GnR then it's UYI-1.
