You have a Newark over there too? I'm assuming the one spoken of earlier is the one in New Jersey, USA. It and Camden are constantly battling each other for the title of crack/murder capitol of our fair state.

- A co-worker is going on "holiday" to London in 2 weeks. I'll have to see what he says about your homeland. I spent about 9 hours in Heathrow Airport during a layover from Greece and it seemed pretty nice. Well, the airport part of London anyway.
I sometimes wonder why Europeans want to come to the United States. I guess it's a grass is always greener sort of thing. My co-worker came back to work this Monday after spending a week in London and the surrounding area. He had nothing but nice things to say about it. The food wasn't as bad as everyone thinks and they could get cold beers. His only complaint was that everything seemed more expensive. I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

|
Worth nearly $2,000 a month? Pffft! Haha.
Tiny or not, if this house is here in Sillicon valley it could be well over $2000 you know. Our stupid condo is $2500... Anyhow, I love the weird English sense of humour and I love Premiership football so I dont mind visiting England one day. I always intend to do so every summer by the way, but somehow always end up to the usual places (Germany, Greece, Bulgaria).

I believe the rumor/stereotype about England is that you drink your beer at room temperature, not icy cold like us Yanks.

When I was in Ireland (what a great country! I want to go back!), you could get Guiness on draft that was chilled to a colder temp than the regular Guiness on draft. It is true the the guiness tastes way better in Ireland

| I'd love to visit for the rich history and to see the place that inspired so many of my favorite comedy shows. My main reason is to see the castles (that and Scotland, Wales, and Ireland). Also it is one of the European countries I never got to visit while I was in the navy along with Germany, France (thank God ), Norway, Sweden, and a few others (I've been to Spain, Turkey, Greece, Italy, and Croatia {I would love to see more of those places except Turkey, at least the areas were tourists aren't assulted by shop keepers who want their mone}). | |

Turkey is a VERY poor country. There are places were if you are a tourist, people are always pestering you to buy something. Shopkeeper-"My friend! Buy Persian rug only $100!" Tourist-"No thank you." Shopkeeper- "Come on be my friend, buy rug!" Then as your walking away they will say something like, "What did I ever do to you!" They are so desperate for money they will even try to cheat you. "Buy pastry my friend first one free!" Then when you touch it they stat yelling, "Five dollar, five dollar!!!!" Another example is they will run up to you and glob a bunch of shoe polish on your shoes and tell you you must pay them for shoe shine. When I was there they tried that on me, and I was wearing sneakers!! I feel sorry for them but that kind of pushiness and swindling annoyed the hell out of me.

| That's how it was in the part of Africa I lived in....I'm pretty sure that's par no matter what poor country you visit. White skin = rich in most parts of the world even if you grew up in a trailer park like me! | |

| I'd love to go to Englkand, but more for the out of the way places. I've heard enough of London to know I would see everything I wanted to there in a day or so and get out.
But some of the outlying areas hold an interest for me. My sister lives in Ireland, so it's possible I could take a UK tour someday.

I had a lot of experiences like this when I was in Germany in '87. A lot of the street vendors I encountered in Frankfurt (many of whom were Turkish, so maybe it's a Turkish thing??) will pester the hell out of you as you walk by their stands/tables... I had one guy simply slap an Army jacket over my shoulders as I was walking by and said "This fits you great, my friend! You buy today?" and I was like "Hell NO, get the f**k off of me!"
