When I picked up my copy at Best Buy, there were only 2 copies left and I grabbed one of 'em.

As for the album itself, I spun it quite a bit over the weekend and I like it. The band delivered on 2 counts:

1. The drama surrounding the band created interest in Queensryche for the first time in 15 years. Building up that kinda hype could be deadly.
2. They were able to follow it up with a decent album.

In this day & age, that's good enough to satisfy me. Good job, guys.

Yeah, I just see people on other forums saying things like "Queensryche is back!!!" and "Todd sounds like prime Geoff Tate!!!" and using words like "amazing" and "brilliant"....and none of that is true.

Like someone said way back when FU came out, as long as Toddryche puts out something even barely resembling early Queensryche people will lose their minds over it...and that's what's happening.

It has made me curious, and while I hung on as a fan of Queensryche, I have not added 'American Solider' or 'Dedicated to Chaos' to my collection, where this new one I am curious enough to want to add it to my collection

I'm one of the many people losing my mind over it. Great album.     

I think the hyperbole is a little much but at the same time people have a good reason to really enjoy this album. F.U. has two good songs and comparatively this sounds like the band people knew.

plus if you compare QR with the last couples QR releases, it really is that good.

Maybe they didn't want to seem overly anxious? Ease folks into it with some mid-tempo numbers and see how it goes before bludgeoning them over the head with a full-on metal assault.
 

It's hard to believe the wouldn't throw one or two on to ease the way but here's hoping.

'Empire' is a world away from 'Mindcrime'...and 'Mindcrime' is far faster than the EP.....just felt like putting that out there, it never ceases to amaze me when 'Mindcrime' is ever referred to in any less intense or any less metal way than the EP...

Cool! As expected, they beat Tatewreck. Killer album - too bad they didn't sell more. Highest chart position in years too.

That about sums it up! Plus, for the few of us that actually followed the band as Tate pulled his shenanigans, leading Queensryche down a dark and crappy path, it's nice to see the band get back on track.

That's a really good article to sum things up for people who are late to the party. It's kind of annoying that it refers to Geoff's "artier" interests...... Geoff no longer has 'arty' interests, but it's partially because of those that USED to be there which helped make QR so stellar. I really don't think that a wine brand and regurgitated alternative rock is 'arty' nowadays.  

Hmmm...I expected it to sell more. I mean, the new Amon Amarth charted higher! Does anyone know if this number includes pre-orders?

I'm not quite sure why you are surprised, Amon Amarth and Queensryche both posted songs (Redemption and Deceiver of the Gods) from the new records on youtube a few weeks ago, the AA vid has almost three times as many views. I know that record sales are down, but Sabbath did 155,000 and QOTSA 91,000 in their 1st week, 13,500 isn't great.

But at least it beat Tate

Those sales figures are right in line with what I anticipated for the album.
