Finished Meatball Machine. Not quite on par with Machine Girl or Tokyo Gore Police but it's still pretty gory and out there.

Out there sounds correct (I just read the descriptions on Wikipedia). However, despite not being much into gore, I'm intrigued (especially in Tokyo Gore Police).

"Evolution" (2001)

Sci-fi action comedy from Ivan "Ghostbusters" Reitman is a variation on the "Men in Black" formula, with two slacker college professors (David Duchovny and Orlando Jones) dealing with an invasion by rapidly-evolving alien nasties that hitched a ride into their Arizona home town on a meteorite. Cool creature effects, and Duchovny has fun tweaking his "X-Files" persona while the jokes and alien fluids fly. Funny stuff!

I've been watching the Pirates vs Cardinals series. Although the Pirates have been slumping a bit lately they were able to take 2 out of 3 from the Redbirds, shutting them out twice.

In these types of movies the gore is sooooo over the top that it's hilarious. It's like The 3 Stooges with blood. Tokyo Gore Police is excellent although, typical of a lot of Asian gorefests, a lot of it doesn't make much sense; lots of "WTF moments" but there are some plot twists and turns that keep you interested. But you have to pay close attention because it's sort of hard to follow.

I just bought that a couple months back for about $3 ppd. I enjoyed it a lot. Although I didn't LOL very much it was still very entertaining.

"Saturn 3" (1980)

Cheesy sci-fi cult classic starring an aging Kirk Douglas and a hot-n-juicy Farrah Fawcett as a pair of research scientists/lovers on a remote space outpost, whose idyllic existence is threatened by a new arrival from Earth (a young Harvey Keitel) and his psychotic killer robot - both of whom have designs on Farrah.

This flick wants to be a terror bonanza ala "Alien" but though it's got some cool set designs and a bad-ass looking robot, the flick is slow as molasses and never builds up any real suspense. You do get to see Farrah's exposed breast for about two seconds though, which must count for something.

Believe it or not, this flick was directed by Stanley "Singin' In The Rain" Donen, of all people.

Useless trivia, Keitel's dialogue was overdubbed (woodenly) by another actor to cover up his thick Brooklyn-ese accent.

Recommended only for Farrah fans and sci-fi geeks with a high tolerance for B-Movie pain.

Yeah, Saturn 3 is pretty generic overall, I liked it when I was a kid but re-watching it several years ago was a chore.

Donen actually had quite an interesting directing career and made films in just about every genre imaginable. "Charade" is probably my favorite. He started as a dance choreographer before moving into the director's chair. His last film was "Blame It On Rio" with Michael Caine in 1984.

Yeah, Donen had a varied resume for sure, but a guy known as the "King of the Musicals" had no business tackling the sci-fi/horror genre. Very Happy I understand that he actually took over for another director who was fired early on in the filming.

I was entertained by "Saturn 3" but not for the right reasons, if you know what I mean.

Donen was one of the producers on the film initially, when the original director (art director John Barry) didn't work out Donen had to remove him and complete the film himself. About halfway through filming the budget was cut drastically, many intended scenes were never completed and only about half of the original FX shots could be completed, they salvaged what they could and that's the film you watched. (according to IMDB the other film being produced by Lord Grade at the time was Raise The Titanic, when that film went way over budget they stole the funds from Saturn 3 to complete it).

When I was a kid the robot creeped me out, especially that scene where he removes the splinter from Farrah's eye.

"Dog Day Afternoon" (1975)

Based on a true incident that happened in 1972, two losers (Al Pacino and John Casale) attempt to rob a Brooklyn bank ... and before they quite know what's happening, the situation has spun out of control, they're holding eight bank employees hostage on live TV, and "Sonny" (Pacino) has become a reluctant folk hero.

This is regularly mentioned as one of the best movies of the 70s and now I see why. Fantastic screenplay and excellent performances, especially by Pacino.

Tentacles - A late 70s Italian Jaws rip off that somehow got John Huston,Shelley Winters,Claude Akins and Henry Fonda (in a bit part) to act in it.

And pretty nice having the trailer basically show you the end of the picture !
