Stanley Cup Finals 2012

The Devils win game six and reach the Cup finals for the 5th time in the last 17 years.

The finals start Wednesday night. Devils have home ice.

Not sure which team is the favourite and which the underdog. Before the season the LA Kings were actually expected to be good and possibly even make a cup run. The Devils missed the playoffs last season and were questionable for this season.

But the regular season turned things around. It was the Kings who limped in as the last team to reach the playoffs and had to play the Canucks, the team with the best record in the regular season. The Devils were middle of the pack during the regular season with an easier schedule in the first round and a pretty good chance at a cup run. At least I knew they were going to beat the Flyers after they solved the Panthers.

But now again, it's the Kings who have an insanse 12-2 record in the playoffs. They have been amazing all post-season and I just cannot see them falling apart now. But the Devils are their biggest challenge. Definitely a better checking team than the Canucks, a better playoff team than the Blues and just simply better than the Coyotes in just about everything. They also have the best penalty kill unit in the league. Couple that with the King's lackluster powerplay and the Devils should feel pretty comfortable playing on the edge all the time, not fearing penalties.

Going with the Kings. Hate the fact that my Rangers lost to the Devils, but props to NJ. They played really well. Probably should've won in five games if it wasn't for Lundqvist stealing Game 3.

A day away and I'm already nervous. This is an odd matchup. These two teams don't really know each other that well. GO KINGS GO!

Go Kings! I predict they'll win in six.

I desperately hope they'll win, as I'm okay with any team but New Jersey winning the Stanley Cup.

I'll be odd man out and continue backing NJ...

Watched the game yesterday at my local cigar lounge. Nothing better than a good cigar and a Kings victory in LA.

The game last night was played in New Jersey, actually. They will be playing in Los Angeles tomorrow night.

Unless you're from Los Angeles, and were watching the game there.

Up 2 games to 0, I'm still anxious, nervous and excited all at the same time.

I used to be a big NJ Devils fan, when I was still single my friend Dave and I would get together to watch as many games on TV together as we could and went to at least two or three games a year (usually when they were playing the Rangers!), but over the past couple of years I just haven't had time to pay much attention to hockey (or sports in general). I try to keep up with how they're doing via the papers and highlights on the news but haven't sat down to watch an actual game in quite a while. (and now that they've moved to Newark, actually going to a game is unlikely at best...)

...so anyway, Saturday night I happened to land on the Devils/Kings game just as overtime started... I got all excited, and then I watched them lose. Fooey.

Both of the first two games could have gone either way, admittedly. Still, I lean towards Los Angeles winning tonight.

Whoo! The Kings won 4-0 to take a 3-0 series lead!

Let's hope they can win on Wednesday night so they can win their first ever Stanley Cup on home ice!
