The Safety Fire have a new album planned this year. They seem like funny dudes, too.
Quote :
London progressive metallers THE SAFETY FIRE will release their second album, "Mouth Of Swords", on September 3 in North America via InsideOut Music. Tommy Rogers from touring partners BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME has provided guest vocals on one track.
Commented vocalist Sean McWeeney: "Since our first album, we've all concentrated more on having awesome haircuts and facial hair. Does that go some way to explaining why 'Mouth Of Swords' is shit-hot? Some may suggest so. But all I know is I'm on it and that's enough for most people. This album is pure gold, and will be priced accordingly."
Added guitarist and producer Derya "Dez" Nagle: "I must have said 'there is no topping WINGER's 1988 classic 'Winger' on a daily basis during the recording process. I've never been wrong about anything in my whole life, so it was a rather humbling experience to realise that what we were creating was in fact better than WINGER's 1988 classic, 'Winger'. I felt like a bozo deluxe. After awhile, I came to accept that we had created the best album of all time, ever, in the history of known time. The burden of holding such musical gold was too much for us to handle and the band agreed to release it through InsideOut Music, on September 3rd. I'd like to think the music can speak for itself, but music can't speak, so I'll speak on its behalf. Hello. I hope you enjoy me."
"Mouth Of Swords" track listing
01. Mouth Of Swords 02. Glass Crush 03. Yellowism 04. Beware The Leopard (Jagwar) feat. Tommy Rogers 05. Red Hatchet 06. Wise Hands 07. The Ghosts That Wait For Spring 08. I Am Time, The Destroyer 09. Old Souls
I really enjoyed Grind the Ocean, their last album, so I'm looking forward to this one. If you don't mind the more modern, shouty kind of prog, check them out:

I didn't like those guys at first, but I've warmed up to their first album. Pretty dope stuff.

If it's like any other awards ceremony, Sound of Contact will win the Limelight award because Phil Collins's son is the singer. I haven't heard any of the other bands in that category, but I definitely like Distorted Harmony's album more. Sound of Contact is really good, though.

While I'm here, a couple vids from some prog albums I got this week from NEH Records's $5 section:
I also got another Cyril Achard album, my third, and I'm really beginning to love this guy. Dude's all over the place with his projects—prog metal, rock, jazz, acoustic. Definitely check him out. Not many videos on YouTube, unfortunately.
I've already listened to this several times, being not sure whether I like it or not. After the song ends I hit "play" button yet again to make final decision. Wonder if this is it, the sign of liking...
I love them. The screaming took a bit to get used to—because it's that modern "screamo" kind of stuff rather than a more traditional, guttural screaming—but they're quite good.

The Cynthesis album is excellent. Definitely a mellower affair than the first album, though. But given that it's the second album in a trilogy, I don't have an issue with it not being as heavy.
And I'm looking forward to the new Tangent album. Hope I can find a copy around here. Comes out on Tuesday!
Haven't heard the other two bands in exact's post, but I diggin' those clips. Will have to keep a lookout for them.

So this album is kind of amazing.
Nightingale Express, by A Liquid Landscape. It's another Laser's Edge release (this time on the label of the same name). Absolutely brilliant.
Way mellow, though.

I'm stoked for this one. Haken's first album was fantastic, but I never really got into Visions (although I probably should).

I think it's quite good, actually. The goofy video is distracting, but that's pretty sweet.

It sounds modern, I think that turns a lot of people away from it. I think their sound is pretty unique and that album is def a keeper on my playlist..

It's absolute mayhem, mostly tongue-in-cheek, and heavy--I love it.
