| All this talk about CD repair made me forget why I opened up this thread. Movie Trading Company (used music/movie/video game store) had a buy two get one sale and despite the fact I shouldn't buy anymore stuff I took advantage of it. Spent $180 but I did get $75 worth of free CDs. No more CD spending for the rest of the month (except one more and only if Wal-Mart has it on the cheap) and I'm limiting purchases to a minimum. Not listing any prices but I got these: Slayer-World Painted Blood Emperor-In The Nightside Eclipse George Bellas-Turn Of The Millenium Chickenfoot-s/t Jethro Tull-Aqualung Overkill-Coverkill Sepultura-Roots Cryptopsy-Once Was Not (WOW! listened to some of this and it must be some of the most brutal death metal I've ever heard) Yngwie Malmsteen-Eclipse Steely Dan-Can't Buy A Thrill Uriah Heep-Demons & Wizards Uriah Heep-Magician's Birthday Gamma Ray-No World Order (out-of-print, had to buy two DVDs to get this one for free) Testament-The Gathering Anacrusis-Suffering Hour Graveworm-Engraved In Black Hurricane-Over The Edge King Diamond-House Of God Evergrey-Monday Morning Apocalypse Lou Gramm-Ready Or Not Celtic Frost-To Mega Therion Control Denied-The Fragile Art Of Existence Bought this new: Epica-Requiem For The Indifferent | |

| Hella nice haul there DB. Good thing you're single. If I dropped that much $$ on CDs in one shot my wife would staple-gun my nuts to my forehead. If I may return to the CD-repair topic for a brief moment... the defective Alice Cooper disc seemed to rip to my PC with no problems, weirdly enough. So I figured if I had a copy ripped to my computer I had nothin' to lose by trying the urban legend about toothpaste buffing out CD scratches. So I busted out the Pepso-Dent, gave it a good buff, and rinsed it off...at the moment the disc is drying off and I'll report back on whether or not the surgery was successful when I get a chance. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Yeah, being single does has it's advantages. However, if my dad, sister, or mom knew I spent Unemployment money on those, I'd be ripped a new one. They'd be right to do so, but luckily there is no way for them to find out unless I tell them, and I ain't saying nothing. I still wouldn't have spent all that had it not been that huge buy 2 get 1 sale. I need to reel in my spending and learn some dicipline. Luckily the amount of music I got today will hold me for quite a while and I don't plan on doing anything like that again for quite a long time (no more for the month and sparingly until I get a job). | |

...well I'll be damned. Believe it or not, I think this may have actually worked. Yes, folks, after a light buffing with some Pepso-Dent, a brief rinse, and some drying time, I put the CD in my DVD player (as I don't have a "plain" CD player in the house anymore), cued it up to the track where the skipping began, and...lo and behold, it played thru right to the end of the disc without any skips whatsoever. I suppose the "true" test will be next time I play the CD in a "real" CD player, i.e. my car stereo or the (notoriously picky) portable player on my desk at work, but for right now I can give the toothpaste method a conditional "thumbs up." I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't tried it myself!! _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| DVD and blu ray players generally have better error correction than CD players. |

Yeah, I kinda figured, which is why I am only giving the method a conditional "thumbs up" at the moment. We'll see what happens in my car stereo tomorrow. - thejokeriv wrote:

Oh yea, if I have to sh*tcan the actual disc, I plan to do that, just to have something to put in the jewelcase. Why let the inserts go to waste? _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I love that album. Kinda slipped under the radar, seeing how popular the Foos are. The debut is equally as good. If you haven't heard that one, grab it. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was.
