Tommy Conwell And The Young Rumblers - Rumble | One of my favorite albums. Shoulda been a big seller.
Great album for driving around in summertime with the windows down and the volume cranked. Pleasantly surprised by this one. I thought it might be a bit of that poppy kind of rock meets punk stuff that was around in the late 80s, but at $0.99 I have it a go. Really solid album, though. He was a local Philly guy, so for a brief time, he was quite popular 'round these parts. Saw him live a few times too. Once, drunk off his ass, opening for George Thorogood at the Spectrum and years later in a tiny bar. Sadly, nothing he ever did after that lived up to his debut. He was a radio dj for a few years too back in the late 90's-early 00's. Don't know what became of him after that though. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Looks like he's doing acoustic coffee-shop shows now. I'd laugh at that, but I know some people who make a couple hundred bucks a week doing one coffee-shop show, you know. So maybe he's making a good living. Haha.

| The night we saw him playing at this tiny bar, we didn't even recognize him. We saw the marquee and were excited to see him again.
So were standing by the bar and this bald-headed, baggy jeans roadie keeps pushing past us to set up the gear, to the point where it was getting annoying. Finally, the dj announces "Ladies & gentlemen, Tommy Conwell and the Little Kings" and who steps up to the mic but the little bald dude in baggy jeans and wife beater t-shirt. We all did spit-takes.
If you see his other album, Guitar Trouble, pick it up. It's pretty much a continuation of Rumble. I don't remember if he had any hits from it, but it's enjoyable enough. I did get mine signed that night at the bar. After that one he kinda faded away. He put out a few albums with his new band, the Little Kings, but never made much of an impact. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. I just requested Guitar Trouble from SwapaCD. I was listening the the Little Kings albums and they sound good. Totally different, though; more of a 50s rockabilly sound, but it sounded good. On his website, he has up for download a fourth Rumblers album that was apparently recorded but shelved and never released by the label. Sounds decent. As does the debut, which I'm assuming only got a vinyl release originally. He's got a CD version available, but I wonder if it's a CDR.

The first one was an independent release. Probably worth some coin too. Most of the songs on that one appear on Rumble. I vaguely recall hearing about that 4th unreleased album, but for obvious reasons, never heard it. It was more of an urban legend back then. Another bit o' trivia...Tommy's brother, Joe Conwell was a football player and spent a few seasons with the Eagles. I believe he got suspened for steroid use. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. You can hear similarities with Tull on alot of their albums, although GG had their own sound for sure. |

| Today my stepson and I attended a local record convention. He has recently began collecting vinyl, after his mom and I bought him a record player for Christmas. He did some nice scores on a couple of Aerosmith album, and Kiss - Love Gun. He also snagged The Beatles Sgt. Pepper for under $4! I bought CD's. Riot - Rock City Viper - Maniacs In Japan Jacob's Trouble - s/t Exodus - The Best Of... Exodus - Lessons In Violence Raven - Heads Up! _________________ | |

I always wanted to try and get him but the people I knew who would do these things weren't interested. I did get to see Richard X. Heyman in my friend Juie's living room this way. I only gave it one spin but I didn't really hear anything that I had to go back and listen to again cause it was so good. I'll be listening to it again obviously but as of now the only one I really did like was an acoustic version of one of the songs that was on the end of the cd. _________________

| Skid Row - Slave To The Grind - Of course, I already owned this but there are two versions of this album. I already owned the version that had the track "Get The F**k Out" on it but I didn't have the version that had "Beggars Day." I grabbed it at Half Price Books for cheap. For some reason, I thought "Beggars Day" was a ballad but it turns out it's a smokin' rocker! Hurray! | |
