To me this was Slayer at a very weak point. The songs were fairly slow, the guitars lost their feel, it was more of Slayer going commercial and I am not into commercial type metal a lot. What's there to like about it?

The drums. And I also like the diversity...

| Reign In Blood was Overrated..sorry to say this, it was cutting edge way back then but I think Seasons in the Abyss PWNS it hard, it contains way more memorable songs than South Of Heaven and Reign in Blood Combined | |

I never understood why people were so offended by this cover when they had played this song live for a decade AND they had already recorded it once on their Ruff Cutts EP. It was definitely the wrong song to chose as a single. The band thought it would appeal to the old school fans. It didn't. I never liked it when they did it the first time personally. However Ult, I think the vast majority of people who are offended by the cover on COAP aren't even aware it was on Ruff Cutts to begin with.

| Iron Maiden- No Prayer For The Dying
Coming off of one of the best albums of all time, this mediocre platter was very disappointing. One of the only times Maiden has sounded on auto pilot.

I am on the fence on this album - I almost posted it in this thread but couldnt decide. You are probably correct in your assessment. _________________

Adrian had just left the band, Steve wanted to go for a more stripped down, rock sound and it didn't work. There are some good tracks on it, but it's not as good as the 7 classics beforehand. FOTD was much better, but still not as good as the classics. They never really got back to greatness until Adrian re-joined the band. Of course, Bruce is a must for the Maiden sound.

| Flotsam & Jetsam 1st two albums were incredible. I can't remember the name of their next LP, something about a "storm"? Anyhoo, I listened to it a few times, thought it was crap then took it to Manifest & traded it for something else. Same experience with Quatro. Haven't listened to any new Flots since then. Have I missed anything? | |

| NO PRAYER... is simply forgettable. Even the Blaze Bayley albums cause more of a reaction (even if that reaction is outright hatred from most folks)... but N.P.F.T.D. is just "meh." Maiden totally phoned that one in. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

If you just like the sound of the first two... You won't like the other ones.

The Cold. Not a return to their old thrash roots, but a very heavy and aggressive album that still manages to be melodic.

| KFD by WASP was a shock, or the TWO project by Rob Halford. NATIVE TONGUE by POISON was a let down too. BLIND GUARDIAN:A NIGHT AT THE OPERA was horrible ALICE COOPER nearly everything released after HEY STOOPID. etc...etc.... | |

| Second WIDOWMAKER album with DEE SNIDER was horrible, also very disapointed with the second KING JAMES album after their great debut or the second FIGHT album, also a let down. | |

| Krokus - The Blitz: too commercial; especially after the killer 'Headhunter'. Stryper - In God We Trust: too polished and too many ballads. None is preferable; one is acceptable...but 3? No. Does have some great songs, though (Writing's On The Wall, title track, The Reign). This album would sound a LOT better with a grittier, heavier mix. Anthrax - State of Euphoria: ok album, but not compared to Among the Living. Just was kind of a letdown. Deliverance - Learn: Ok, I know Jimmy was following his inner leading and doing what he wanted to do, and this album is great for what it is, but after the monster 'Stay of Execution', this one just didn't do much for me. Too slow, too simple, boring.

| I tried to list albums that not only were letdowns when they were released, but also did not really stand the test of time well; i.e., were not 'growers'.
Some that I thought weren't very good upon release, but grew on me and that I now see as great albums would be:
Slayer - South of Heaven Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son Twisted Sister - Come Out & Play

I didn't think Learn was that far removed from Stay of Execution.

| Maiden's No Prayer album is good. It just sounds more like a Bruce solo album...

Glad to see someone else who liked that song! Especially someone like you who I very rarely agree with.

I would also add Deliverance - What A Joke. After the awesome Weapons, Jimmy B and the boys released that turkey know as What A Joke.
