If it is really a reunion of the original 4 with a new album in the can, they are really gonna have to step it up to surpass the last Heaven & Hell album. Sure, I'll give a new album a fair shake, but given Ozzy's present condition (re:burned out), I just don't see that happening.
I'll give it a shot if they AVOID outside writers/producers and let Tony run free...

A new/old pic of the Ozzy line-up is now the only page on their website. Another pic from the same photo-shoot is added to their Facebook page. No written new though, but this probably means reunon. Too bad their couldn't end this awesome band on a high note, but choose now to drag their name through the mud with their mumbeling Sharon-hand-puppet.

As MG said, if they are going to create a new album it better be damn good, because 'The Devil You Know' by the Dio led Sabbath is going to be hard to beat.

I hope this isn't just an announcement for the "return of Ozzfest" with Sabbath headlining. Been there, done that.

New album and tour - they are already in the studio record it with Rick Rubin. Personally, I wish they would have picked a different producer than Rick 'Loudness War' Rubin, but at least Sharon can't tell Rick Rubin what to do and it isn't someone on Sharon's payroll.
BLACK SABBATH ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM AND 2012 WORLD TOUR!
11th November 2011
Well, after all the rumours and having to keep plans quiet for so long, I can finally stop dodging questions. The truth is it has only come together properly in the last few days!
Look forward to seeing you all in 2012.
All the best, Tony
BLACK SABBATH REUNITES TO RECORD FIRST NEW STUDIO ALBUM IN 33 YEARS AND LAUNCH MASSIVE WORLD TOUR IN 2012
OZZY OSBOURNE, TONY IOMMI, GEEZER BUTLER AND BILL WARD UNVEIL PLANS ON 11/11/11 AT A LOS ANGELES PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE WHISKY A GO-GO, WHERE THE BAND PERFORMED THEIR FIRST LOS ANGELES DATE EXACTLY 41 YEARS AGO
After much speculation, the original four members of BLACK SABBATH--OZZY OSBOURNE (vocals), TONY IOMMI (guitar), GEEZER BUTLER (bass) and BILL WARD (drums)--have reunited to record their first new studio album in 33 years with producer Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy winner, two of those as Producer of the Year) and to embark on a massive world tour in 2012.
OSBOURNE, IOMMI, BUTLER and WARD as well as Rubin all gathered today on 11/11/11 to announce the news at a Los Angeles press conference at the legendary club, the Whisky A Go-Go, the site of the groundbreaking and influential band’s first L.A. concert exactly 41 years ago (Nov 11, 1970). The event was hosted by the revered musical and spoken word artist Henry Rollins who has said that “Any band worth their weight in napalm wishes they had written ‘War Pigs.’”
Selling over 70 million albums together, the Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have signed a new record deal worldwide with Vertigo and Vertigo/ Universal Republic in the U.S., the band’s original label. BLACK SABBATH is now in the studio recording the as-yet-untitled new album for release in the fall of 2012 (exact date TBA). It will mark their ninth studio album together and their first since 1978’s Never Say Die!
Next summer, BLACK SABBATH will headline the mammoth multi-day UK Download Festival in the U.K. on June 10. The new album will then be supported with a worldwide headline arena tour (dates TBA).
BLACK SABBATH also announced today the launch of www.blacksabbath.com, the first-ever official BLACK SABBATH website for all authorized BLACK SABBATH news. In addition, the band’s online presence will also be supported by social media via Facebook and Twitter--again, marking the band’s first-ever foray into the social media world.
BLACK SABBATH released their self-titled debut album in 1970. “Black Sabbath is credited with creating heavy metal,” according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “The success of their first two albums--Black Sabbath and Paranoid--marked a paradigm shift in the world of rock. Not until Black Sabbath upended the music scene did the term ‘heavy metal’ enter the popular vocabulary to describe the denser, more thunderous offshoot of rock over which they presided.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame also noted, “…they remain one of the most misunderstood bands in rock history,” adding: “The band’s musicality was generally overlooked, but they possessed an inventiveness and fluency that, in hindsight, makes them seem as much of a progressive-rock band as a heavy-metal one.”
In 1998, BLACK SABBATH released Reunion from their 1997 concerts in Birmingham, England, a two-CD live set that featured two new studio songs. The band has also sporadically reunited for shows in 1999, 2002 and 2004; in 2005, the four performed concerts together when they toured Europe and then headlined the 10th anniversary of Osbourne’s namesake festival OZZfest. Also in 2005, they were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame by Brian May of Queen. This was followed by their induction in 2006 into the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on them by Metallica’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.

I'd be more concerned that he'll "stroke out" first. He's had some health issues in the past and none of 'em are getting any younger.
Cool news though. Here's hoping for a great album!

I have a feeling it will be great - Tony proved he's still got mega-riffs on the excellent "The Devil You Know". Plus, it will all be Tony and Geezer songs - Ozzy will just show up to sing, unless he get a wild hair up his ass to start wiring lyrics..... Hopefully Rick Rubin doesn't overly compress the mix..... Ah, who am I kidding, of course he will, he always does

That last OZZY album must've made no $$$$$ for Sharon to consider this the best option for Ozzy at this juncture.
Does anyone remember how weak those 2 reunion songs were they recorded over 10 years ago?

The AC/DC guys hated Rick Rubin, on 'Ballbreaker' they hired some guy named Mike Frasher to produce the album, because they thought Rubin did not do anything but they still had to give him producers credit which is why Mike Frasher gets a co production credit on that disc.

Tony talks about those two songs in his book. Supposedly the band was forced to come up with two new songs in just a few days.

They weren't bad songs, but sounded more like outtakes of a solo ozzy song then classic Black Sabbath IMO.

That seems to be a common complaint about Rubin these days. Not taking away from his early works, but it seems as if he's just been coasting on his past rep for quite some time now.

Does anyone remember how weak Ozzy's last solo album was? Getting back with Sabbath is the lesser of 2 evils if that's the case.

I want Rubin's job because the guy seemingly does NOTHING and even admits it. Someone sent me his book from a few years ago. It's interesting and in it he stated himself numerous times that even he does not know what a producer is actually supposed to do, he just knows whether a song is good or not. He said he stays out of the way and will just lay on the couch in the studio or go out and then come back later, tell them to play for him what they've been working on and then he'll suggest changes. That's how he produces.
Seems to me like a lot of bands are paying him big dollars for nothing. I guess some bands feel like they always need a producer when they could just as easily do it themselves.

There's still a part of me that thinks Sharon is behind this just to piss on poor Ronnie's legacy. She can't let him get all the praise for the last Sabbath (or Heaven & Hell if you prefer) album, especially when it left Scream in the dust.
This is her way of saying "That's not a real Sabbath album. OZZY is the true singer of the band and this is THE final Sabbath album."

Rick Rubin does anything but "nothing". The producer's job is to push the band to get the best out of them. That's what he does. He leaves them alone to write as much as possible, which is what he should do. Then he says "show me what you got"...if the songs are no good he tells them to keep writing...he's quality control.
Also I am pretty sure he doesn't master the albums he produces (does he even mix them?), so he's not to blame for any "loud war" nonsense.
