Legendary metal gods Black Sabbath may be getting back together. Rolling Stone reports that the band has called a press conference for Friday, 11-11-11, at which the band is expected to announce a reunion for the original members of the band including former lead singer turned pop culture icon Ozzy Osbourne.
The band's management issued a press release late last week in which they promised that the event at the legendary Los Angeles rock n' roll venue, the Whiskey a Go Go would include a 'Special Announcement.' Black Sabbath made their Los Angeles debut at the Whiskey 41 years ago.
The reunion of Black Sabbath had been rumored for quite a while with members of the band offering differing statements about the truth and untruth of various rumors. In February bassist Geezer Butler offered an adamant statement that no reunion, either for a tour or a new record, was in the works.
A month later, guitarist Tommy Iommi told a British tabloid that the rumors of a reunion were true but that the details of the deal were still being worked out. Iommi later offered a vague retraction of his quotes but failed to actually deny that the band was getting back together.
The original lineup of Black Sabbath reformed in 1997 for a tour and continued to tour together through 2005. The band hasn't released a record of new music since 1978's "Never Say Die."
The announcement of Black Sabbath's reunion happens to fall on the same day that VH1 Classic has declared "National Metal Day."

I'd like to see them in the studio again to be honest. I think with enough creative energy, they could really make something special. One more studio album would be a fitting tribute to their legacy.
Hope the announcement is something worthwhile.

Triple-tracked, auto-tuned, Pro-tooled vocals sound great. Quit being so negative.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had an album ready to go - in Tony's bio he said they had 6 tracks ready to go on the aborted project from the previous reunion. They stopped because of the TV show The Osbournes.

He's singing much better now than he has been in the last 4 years.

From Billboard:
After writing extensively about its past in his new book Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven & Hell With Black Sabbath," guitarist Tony Iommi is cautiously optimistic about a future with bandmates Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward.
And he's not giving any hints about the November 11th press conference the band his holding in Los Angeles.
"We're talking," Iommi tells Billboard.com, adding that "we've always been talking, to be honest. We've always been in touch with each other. There might be a lawsuit in-between us, but we still talk to each other like nothing's happened." The most recent legalities occurred in 2009, when Osbourne sued Iommi over the latter's ownership of the Black Sabbath name. The matter was settled out of court in June of 2010, and the terms have never been revealed.
Iommi says the quartet assembled earlier this year at Osbourne's home in California to play some music "for a bit of fun, and to see if we could all play. It was good, but it was just purely, 'Let's have a go and see what happens.' " Iommi says the group plans to get together again "very soon...to discuss things and see what's going to happen and see what we're going to do. It's all in the air at the moment, but it'd be nice to think we can actually do something."
And in his heart of hearts, Iommi says he'd like to see the lineup make its first new album together since 1978's Never Say Die, with the exception of two songs they added to the 1998 live album Reunion. "It'd be nice to do another album with the guys, yeah," Iommi says. "There's always unfinished business, isn't there?"

My money's on an All-Eras-of-Sabbath Traveling Roadshow, featuring an Ozzy set, a Dio set (with Ripper Owens filling in for Ronnie), an Ian Gillan set and a Tony Martin set.

Each show will be 18 hours long.

If it is really a reunion of the original 4 with a new album in the can, they are really gonna have to step it up to surpass the last Heaven & Hell album. Sure, I'll give a new album a fair shake, but given Ozzy's present condition (re:burned out), I just don't see that happening.
