Saw that on Blabbermouth. The blabberjerks are all over him about it over there, like he committed some crime against humanity for "forcing" people to listen to his minute long prayer. Good for Blackie. It's nice to see guys like him, with a reputation for being a jerk, stand up for what he believes and also show some compassion.

He still is a jerk Scott, being a christian or not. He is still very nasty to his fans at concerts, thinking he is god and not giving a minute of his time to anybody. Ones a jerk always a jerk.

Everyone is influenced by someone or something...nobody truly, truly thinks for themselves...all of our opinions are shaped by those we choose to associate with or listen to.

Thats true but its not always a positive influence, and religion is dangerous for some specialy if they become blind by it, religion sick, obsessed etc....and some reborn christian are fanatics (not everybody of course, but we all know that some are).

PostSubject: Re: The change in Blackie Lawless   The change in Blackie Lawless Icon_minitimeWed Aug 17, 2011 6:09 pm

There's some things I like and some things I don't like about the new Blackie Lawless. What I saw in this video, I like. It was brave, heart-felt, and honest, and I mean, no matter what faith you are, if you're a decent human being then you agree with the message. So whether he puts the name Jesus or Buddha or Odin behind it isn't too important.

What I don't like about Blackie after his conversion, or re-conversion (the guy's held a lot of conflicting attitudes both for and against religion over the years), is that now he's taking away some of W.A.S.P.'s edge by refusing to play old songs, most notably Smurf Like a Beast. I feel like even Alice Cooper has a better grasp on how rock 'n' roll needs to keep its edge than Blackie does over the past few years, and I compare him to Alice because they are very similiar people in many ways. Any way, if there's one thing I know about Blackie, it's that he goes through phases, and this will change. I'm not saying he won't still be Christian, but he'll go through another rebellious streak where he goes out to shock us again with sex and gore. I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised.

Although I'm sure he is well intentioned with this prayer I don't think a W.A.S.P concert is really the best medium for it.

Watching this I can't help but feel that W.A.SP have become the opposite of what they set out to be, Blackie in particular has some kind of stuck up holier than thou attitude. He's perfectly entitled to his political and religious beliefs but to be honest I don't give a rats ass about them, just because your famous doesn't mean your opinions on these things matter more.

I'll bet you that if you went to a Gorgoroth show and Gaahl prayed to whoever he prays to, there wouldn't be this kind of complaining and moaning. Maybe it's the right place, and maybe it's not. But I don't believe there would be an uproar if he prayed to any other deity.

Don't believe me? Think about it for a minute.

Actually, I could picture a metal crowd being upset if Blackie started praying to Allah up on stage.

absolutely. And people are blinded by a lot of things - alcohol, drugs, love, education, politics, television, music - all of which make them susceptible to those who wish to manipulate them.

In some ways I agree with this post.

While I applaud Blackie for taking a stand in a WASP concert, as a concert-goer, I don't want to be preached at...in any form.

It's the same gripe I have when a left-leaning artist like Springsteen starts telling people who they should vote for during a concert.

People go to concerts to ESCAPE reality, not be hit over the head by it.

but most people cheer at a concert where the band is praising Satan and stuff like that.

if he had laced that little speech with the word "motherf*cker" about 30 times, it might have been easier for people to swallow. people seem to like to be cursed at.

I don't see how anyone could even begin to complain about this, especially in the kind of manner quoted above. It was like 30 seconds long, and he wasn't preaching at all, he wasn't giving his opinions on religion, he was praying. HUGE difference.

Agreed.

I think its great that Blackie has changed, and I think its great that hes open about his beliefs. Hope he continues in this path.

Well, yeah, and there's a reason why. Think about all the hedonistic and rebellious things Satan is a symbol of. Of course he makes a great mascot.

When it comes to Christianity or Islam, unless you're into it yourself, there's not much fun to it.

Some of you are making this a bigger deal than it really is. Blackie is now an old man who's been through a lot spiritually, and this was just a heartfelt gesture. He may be invoking his brand of religion, but I don't think this had anything to do with religion per se. Eyesore nailed the situation perfectly, imo.

It's a nice change from the retarded "hail satan" garbage.

Satanism at a Venom concert or christianity at a Stryper concert is expected, christianity at a WASP concert isn't. But you guys are right it isn't a big deal, I wouldn't be offended by it even though I could understand if someone was. I'm just saying that Blackie has been annoying as hell lately in general.
