your all time favorite SPEED metal band ...

Now I'm not talkin' bout thrash now boyz. I mean speeeed metal. There is a difference (and no, it's not the same as traditional metal either, or power metal). Just ask Ult - he knows.

Though some early speed metal bands morphed into power metal (Helloween) and some into thrash (Overkill, Slayer, etc).

So who is? Your all time favorite SPEED metal band??

Wow, I think speed metal is a genre I need to explore more of. I guess I kinda passed it over when I was a kid in favor of thrash. Now I need to go back and re-examine it.

I've not heard of any of the bands you boyz mentioned.

Speed metal is hard to define. Many bands labeled speed metal are also labeled as thrash metal, but I'll give it a try. Some favorites.

I'm pretty sure Flotsam and Jetsam's debut would be considered speed metal and I know that they changed their sound over the years but, I'll go with Flotsam just for that one record. And what a awesome record it is. Doomsday!(high pitched scream)

I've always considered both to be traditional heavy metal, though Raven did lean towards speed metal and thrash.

I always liked Target alot. Master Project Genesis is a killer record.

Target is a good choice. Gonna have to dig that album out. That's one of those that Stormspell turned me on to. Hellhound is another.

TARGET is an amazing band. I lump them in with ARTILLERY as thrash though.

IMHO, Raven and Motorhead are both speed metal too!

The reason why some bands are labeled both thrash AND speed metal is because (IMO) some bands are hybrids of the two.

Early Slayer is perfectly both - but they soon shed their speed metal foundation in favor of the new thrash of the day.

Great call on Exciter! Anvil is another one I love!
