Who is your favorite non-metal band and/or non-metal music?

Mine is Cheap Trick. They are one of the best bands on the planet. They can get pretty heavy too, in that melodic/catchy-as-hell way that they have. One that immediately pops to mind is a track called Sorry Boy from their album Special One. It's recent, so I'm sure casual listeners have never heard it. I'm always amused that some people's perception of Cheap Trick begins and ends with I Want You To Want Me.

Jazz and classical are cool.

Picking one would be hard. It also depends on your definition of metal. Moving away from the 'hard rock/metal' category of bands like Thin Lizzy, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, etc., here are some of mine:

I dig the Ramones, New York Dolls, Iggy & the Stooges, Sex Pistols, Crashdog and some other punk/proto-punk. I'm not a huge fan of punk, but I appreciate some of the classic stuff.
