Ok, you had to know I would ask this but why does becoming a truck driver mean you have to give up your cat? I see stories in my humane magazines all the time about big, tough truck drivers who travel with their cat.

For the first six months I will be training with a driver in his truck so even if I could keep my cat on the road, I'd have to have some place to put him for that time. Also, my cat is terrified by being inside a moving vehicle and even getting him near one is quite a chore. I don't know if he is trucking cat material, he'd be more happy in a comfortable home with someone feeding him. I think he'd adapt better to a new home and owner than he would a large, noisy semi truck.

Do you know how to play guitar, DB? You could always join an up and coming thrash metal band.

Ya know, why not do this? If you've got something you love to do, and it'll make you even a little bit of money, may as well start doing that now, eh? If you do good, well there ya go. If you do bad, how much worse could it get? Unless your dream is to be a hitman/drug dealer/etc. Might not want to do that.

All I have are vocals and they need a lot of work. Ultimatly, I either find a full-time job that pays $9-11/hour or choose a trucking school. And if all I get is a 32 hour job at Wal-Mart then I will seek some extra part-time work on top of that.

I'm applying to everything I could possibly do. I've even applied to a car sales porter and meter reader. Failing to get those jobs I will even try some wharehouse jobs (which only pay $8-9/hour). If I can avoid trucking by getting some of these other jobs I will (I will not turn any more jobs down like I did with Wingfoot-though I may not have gotten that job even if I didn't ask for more time).

Earlier today I had a job interview with Firestone. I was trying to gloss over the mistakes I made when I was asked if there was any damage caused by them. I almost said no, but in my head I knew it would sound like I was lying so I told the truth. I told him about inacting measures to make sure it won't happen again (marking the oil pan & double checking my work) but he told me this kind of job needs more than that. He mistook my reason for the engine damage as me saying it was too fast paced for me and that I have to be quick for the job. He told me he had some other interviews to do then he would tell me either Friday or Monday. This did not instill confidence in me getting the job but there is still a small chance I can get the job.

If I don't hear anything by Monday, I'm going to talk to my old manager at Wal-Mart (that night) and try to see if I can't get more consideration for the overnight stocker position. I know I hated that job toward the end but I'd much rather do that for another year or so (along with another part-time job) until I can get another auto job or find something other than trucking.

I still have a fighting chance! I just filled an application to a staffing agency for a warehouse job. I will get an interview with the warehouse on the 22nd and if it goes well another one in a few days after which will cement the job. It is a part-time job (25-35 hours a week) but it pays $14/hour. If I get the job, I have a 90 day trial period to prove myself and if I do, I will get $16/hour and benefits (health, dental, life, vacation, etc.). It will never be a full-time job but it will give me time to develope a steady work record and I can still search for an automotive job and possibly another part-time job.

And rest assure Scott, I will not turn it down. Wink

Warehouse was a bust. I still have another chance through the hiring agency handling circuit cards. There was another one for electronic repair but my technician skills are little. This one is full time but only $10/hour, I will take it if offered but this is a big letdown. I guess my firing from both Honda and Toyota has blackened my resume and if this doesn't pan out then trucking is my only route. It won't be the end of the world but that doesn't lessen the sting. BTW, I hope this doesn't sound too much like self pitty because the fact of the matter is personal choices I've made in my life has put me in this situation and I ultimately have nobody to blame but myself.

At least I have a chance to maybe get some back pay from unemployment if my hearing goes well today.

Thanks, I will know about that $10/hour job by Monday morning. I'm also feeling better about maybe becoming a truck driver, but I don't want to stop trying to find an alternative. However, I just got an offer from my dad to ride with him for a couple of weeks to get a feel of it but I have to decide by Monday (the next time he is down this way) so I may just give up if I don't get the interview for that job Monday morning and take him up on that offer.

Got some false hope recently. I went to a Veteran's job fair and got a job interview with a dealership. Unfortunatly, the interviewer had a last minute meeting to go to but had me do a drug test and background search and would interview when the results came back. Came back yesterday afternoon so I was called in today. I was so confident I could get this job that from Thursday afternoon (the time I went for the drug test) until today I was happy and ready to be free from the pull of trucking. Unfortunatly, the shop foreman had already hired a bunch of guys and had nothing for me right now. He was a little apprehensive about my past mistakes but was willing to give me a chance and said there may be something in the next few weeks. Once again I was put into a deep depression because my deadline was already here, but it was my fault for getting my hopes up too high.

Fortunatly, my dad has given me a few more weeks to find something so I have to try harder than ever to find something or hope the dealership has something for me soon (I still have a chance as the shop foreman assured me that he really is going to try to find me something-but it may be too late by then). I still have a chance but this time I really am packing things up and getting ready for the possibility of becoming a trucker.

On a darker not ( Very Happy ), my unemployment appeal was denied. I knew it would be so I shouldn't be upset. I still am because I've suffered from my mistakes twofold and Bankston Honda was just slightly inconvenience by them. Time to move on give them no more thought (they don't deserve it).
