DB.....Temp agencies are not a "carrer choice" they are to get by with untill better empoyment is procurred. Is Manpower operating in Texas ? I'd rather work a shovel than sell my music, just sayin. The employer pays the temp agency a rate and then the agency pays you. Regardless of whatever the agency gets, you should at least get paid better than minimum wage. What is better ? Sitting at home debating with oneself as to what cds are "keepers" or working 8 hours and getting paid the same day for it.

Agreed and I have already sent my application to several temp agencies, but until I hear from them or until I have a temp job ready for me, I need to have a constingency plan. It also gives me a project to do and keep my mind occupied.

Going through the CDs I want to sell and while looking at the prices I have found out many of them are rare and out of print and some of them getting close to being rare. I have two stacks of CDs I won't be selling because a few go for too cheap (less than $1), some are too damaged, some are getting close to being rare, and many go for over $20 used.

Yeah, I'm constantly amazed at what some CDs I own are going for.
Ever since I stupidly sold some rather rare Running Wild discs to someone on this board for an insanely cheap price, I always doublecheck Amazon and Ebay before pricing CDs I want to unload.
My collection has actually become a retirement investment.

the stuff on amazon and ebay is really only worth what someone is willing to pay. I think of the cds stay there because of the high prices...

Right, but if all the used prices are in a high price range and the price range for new CDs if is even more, you can be pretty sure the CD is rare. I doubt I'd be able to sell them at those high prices, but most of these CDs I'm selling off I want to recapture in the future. I only sell them close to what I can buy them for (though less than the lowest Amazon price in most cases).

My unemployment has been denied. Honda told them I was fired for misconduct at work which was not true. I made mistakes but I never misbehaved or caused trouble. I worked hard, never talked back to management, and obeyed the rules. I will appeal the decision and hopefully, I can change the ruling but with the state of unemployment these days, there is a chance it will be denied. I have reduced the prices in my CD sale and I will spend the day applying to various automotive jobs. However, this setback has put me back into a mood of anger and depression (I've been unsuccessfully trying to sleep over 4 hours). Luckily I have a roof over my head, food in the house, support from my family, and my CD sale has helped bring my savings back up some.

why can't you just grab an easy job at like McDonalds or something? you can still be looking for your dream job at the same time. putting in an honest days work will keep your mind off things & it sure as hell beats selling off possessions.

You're right. However, people don't like to hire someone if they're not going to stay around. Within the next few days if I don't get any job interviews I will start applying to easy part-time jobs (Walgreens and Chevron are hiring right now) but if they think I would be a short timer, they might decide to find someone more long-term. I am going to apply to a dealership suggested by my school and I think if I state my case clearly (and truthfully, I will not lie as I previously reported in this thread), I might be able to impress them enough to hire me. They want Lincoln Tech graduates and I was a model student with good attendance and GPA. Depending on how well that goes, I may not have to go to something I would be considered "too qualified" for (that's the problem with a higher education, easy jobs are harder to get than if I was an unskilled worker).

Sucks that none of the temp agencies ever called me back. There was a message on my answering machine but the guy talked like the old spokesperson from the Micro Machine commercials and I couldn't make out a name or a number. I also got a call from one of those places but all they did was try to sell me shcools to go to (I already went to enough school).

i agree! In this economy, people are doing what they have to put food on the table. I was reading awhile back of a ceo who now delivers pizza.

Well, my sister's husband tried to get an "easy" job that was not in the career field he had been working in as a way to get some income while continuing his search for a job in his career field. Unfortunatly, they told him that he was too qualified for the job. In this tight job market, employers can afford to be picky (being there is more people looking for jobs than there are job openings) so if they think they can get someone who will be with their company for a period of time instead of spending all the money it costs to hire somone on a person who will be gone in a few months, they will take the former. I'm not saying I can't or won't try, I'm just saying it will be hard.

Feeling better about everything now. I still have money to pay bills, buy gas, and keep my belly filled for the month. I have high hopes that in two weeks time when I have my hearing for my appeal, once they hear my side of things they'll realize I did not peform any misconduct in relation to my job (mistakes don't fit the unemployment criterea for misconduct). Also I can still qualify for food stamps which will ease the food budget.
Besides, worrying does nothing but hurt me phyically as well as mentally. Just gotta roll with the punches.
Oh, joy of all joys. I get to visit the DMV tomorrow!

Temp agencies are often gateways to full-time employment. I took a temp job about 7 years ago, and four months later I was hired on full-time. Been there ever since.

One of the most overcrowded poorly run government bureaucracy in the U.S. I'm going to have to do it tomorrow (the day it expires) because I arrived too late to be earlly. I figured being 30 minutes early would take some of the sting out until I got there. I saw a big group of people in front of the building but decided to park and wait in line, but then I turned a corner. You'd think they were in line to get tickets to a hot concert (lawn chairs and the like).
I will have to get there over an hour early tomorrow. I'm too tired to stand in line for that long today.

They've organized the registry near me, so it's wicked smooth. There are long waits depending on what you're doing, but renewing a license, for instance, takes like 10 minutes now.

Yeah, the one by me isn't too bad either but I remember the DMV when I lived in CT and it was a nightmare.

Wish it was like that here. I ended going in after all because I didn't want to spend my birthday at the DMV and ended up waiting two hours. Luckily next time my licence expires I can do it online. I did that last time so I had to go in perso this time. However, now my licence will reflect what I look like these days (no beard but I finally have my DL picture of me with long hair).

In Cali you can make an appointment and it takes very little time. You get to walk by all the saps standing in line(twice) that didn't do it!
