Maybe. But I think Sound Of White Noise is one of their best. Wonder how it would have sounded with Belladonna?

I've always wondered that myself, because that is a very good album!

I like a few songs from when I was a kid, but overall I never though Anthrax w/ Joey was anything too special...but that's just me.

I felt the same way, I like Anthrax but they were never one of my fav bands, and my fav Anthrax release is 'Sound of White Noise', IMO an excellent album.

Anthrax was one of the first thrash bands I was introduced to in high school, so they'll always hold a special place in my lonely, blackened heart.

I like it! I liked it when they played it live too and it stuck with me all through this time. 1st song Anthrax has released in YEARS that I like again. Still not a big fan of this band, but they are turning that around some.

You were one of the guys that were always writing them off for the longest time, so it's surprising you actually like the new song.

I became a Anthrax fan when Persistence of Time came out, but they ended up switching singers shortly after which killed it for me...

(even though I did like some songs with JB)

I downloaded this tonight, I dig it, sounds natural and relaxed.

The pre-chorus doesn't sound any more or less punky than their usual sound (listen to Stand Or Fall from STD). Joey sounds good.

That little instrumental break at around 3:28 (before the solo) is tight as hell! (Charlie has always been a monster player).

He's just about the only thrash drummer I can think of that could go sit in with a band like Parliament/Funkadelic and sound right at home, he's got that natural groove that can't be taught.

The first riff is 100% Gridlock from their Persistence of Time record...

The Gridlock riff was probably thrown in on purpose as a direct nod to their past.

There's a good chance this is gonna be one of the best "comeback" albums ever. They went through a lot of crap (pun intended) to get to this point and i'm glad that they finally did something right.

Yeah, that riff is definitely not a coincidence, they want us to sing "It's a long time coming..." at that section.

I gotta give these guys credit, the tune sounds like what they "want" to do, not what they think we want them to do.

As much as I am a fan, that's putting up way too many expectations, almost guaranteeing a let down.

I listened to the new track twice, and while I do like it, I'm gonna slowly back away from this thread and just quietly wait for the album to be released. It won't be easy, but I wanna be surprised.

That's the best way to do it. I stopped having advance expectations a long time ago, because as you say, you can only end up disappointed.

I miss the days when you might hear a single on the radio, but didn't hear the album until it was in the stores. Nowadays albums get dissected and torn apart online months prior to the actual release date...no wonder bands have a problem creating a buzz for a record, it's "old" before it ever gets released.

I'm the same way about movies these days too. If it's something I really want to see (which isn't often anymore), I avoid trailers, reviews and discussions till I see it myself.

This new album isn't coming out till September. That's a long ways away to be building hype and/or tearing it apart before it's even heard.

Yeah, pretty much for me too. You can't tell anything from trailers anyway. They are generally edited together by an outside vendor who has little input from the filmmakers, they are made with rough cut footage prior to the final cut, so you'll often end up with scenes in the trailer that aren't in the movie and worst they often have nothing in common with the tone of the actual film.

....and September is early enough to hear the Anthrax record, I can probably find something else to jam on until then.

Yeah true! I gave it a listen with open ears when I seen them live this last time and that song was the only good song the entire show (including Megadeth and Slayer). Not to slag those other 2 bands, but they seemed to be going through the motions.

I've never been a big Anthrax fan. I have liked a few songs here and there.

Anyways, looking fwd to hearing the full album.

yep. I stopped going the youtube route for stuff and prefer now to listen when i get it.

you guys can compete for the "most oldschool" title all you want. i for one am glad i can hear if an album is sh*t or not before i put cash down for it.

I agree, I want to hear a good chunk as well. That's why bands need to put their albums up available for streaming-only, a good 3 months before it drops in the stores, so they at least have some competition against the illegal downloaders.

I got no problem previewing an album if it's someone I'm on the fence about. That's what makes the internet so awesome (that and porn). Iced Earth is a good example. While I was a fan, I'm not giving Jon another red cent of my money unless I hear the new material ahead of time and it makes my ball sack bounce up & down like a yo-yo.

But I know I'm gettng the new Anthrax album, so why ruin the experience by letting you turds rip the album to shreds. Or on the flip side, make it sound like it's better than the second coming of J.H.C.

I'd just prefer to make up my own mind on how good or bad it might be without some pre-conceived notions floating around in my head.

It all depends on the band for me. Anthrax will definitely be a blind (or deaf,so to speak) buy after only hearing the one tune. Belladonna back in the band is enough info for me to know I'll get it (the original recordings with Dan Nelson would have gotten much more research before a purchase).
