| Went with Dio, followed by Stryper and Metal Church. These polls get more difficult all the time! | |

I think you mean January 1984.
Yeah, on Wiki it says 1983 in the beginning paragraph but under the album cover pic it says Jan '84... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fistful_of_Metal Plus i was always told it was '83 like Slayer's 1st album...

| Since Sodom and Destruction are not in the poll it made this alot easier. My vote goes to POWERSLAVE, my favorite Maiden album. | |

| Great year! For me it was a tough choice between Fistful of Metal or Metal Church but in the end I went with Metal Church.
One thing: I'm pretty sure Exciter released Violence and Force this year, not Long Live the Loud.
And a shout out for Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force! I prefer what was to come, but this one is a classic nonetheless.

| Ride the lightning is truly one awesome thrash platter. I wish Metallica would release a monstruous album like this one. | |

| This is tough. Another killer year. Still have not voted as I cannot pick one above another. I will add that the Q5 album "Steel The Light" is another killer 84 release. | |

| It's impossible to choose. Ride The Lighting, The Warning and Wasp's debut all holds key spots on my favorites list. This polls impossible. _________________ | |

It wasn't. If FISTFUL OF METAL had been released in January of 1983, it would've predated both KILL'EM ALL and SHOW NO MERCY, which it most certainty did not. It's no biggie - just a Wiki error/inconsistency - but FISTFUL OF METAL was definitely not released in January of '83.

I also went with RIDE THE LIGHTNING.
Given the somewhat large number of IRON MAIDEN fanboys on this board, I thought this would be a neck-in-neck contest between RIDE THE LIGHTNING and POWERSLAVE.
Imagine my shock yesterday when RIDE THE LIGHTNING was basically tied with METAL CHURCH!!!
I love the METAL CHURCH album, but I really do feel that RIDE THE LIGHTNING was hands-down the best album of 1984, with POWERSLAVE coming in at #2.
My Top 5 of 1984 are:
1.) Ride the Lightning - Metallica
2.) Powerslave - Iron Maiden
3.) The Dungeons Are Calling - Savatage
4.) Metal Church - Metal Church
5.) Don't Break the Oath - Mercyful Fate
Great Year!

| I'm going with Don't Break the Oath, but pretty much all the albums in the poll are flawless. If Psalm 9 was in the poll I'd go for that one. Other faves are Rising Force, Defenders of the Faith, Powerslave etc. etc. etc. | |

| I went with Judas Priest on this one. This was the year I was introduced to them and I have never looked back.
This was one of the BEST years for metal!

| Ahh 1984...the year I started my obsession with metal. I was 7, and my older brother Steve made me listen to "Killers" one day. Seeing the album art and hearing the awesome bass line in the title track had me instantly hooked. My followup album was actually "Ride the Lightning", so you'd think I would've voted for it.
I went with "Powerslave", but it was a tough decision. I ultimately went with that because I can never listen to "Ride the Lightning" again. Ever.

| If Venom had been included Id've voted for At War With Satan. Which was my first Venom album (and also how I learned picture discs look cool, but sound like absolute smurf poo). Went with Celtic Frost here instead. Although, I like the majority of the album's named. | |

are also 2 of my favorites. I should have read the list more closely. Ratt's Out of the Cellar is definitely one of my top 5 all-time favorite albums.

I picked RTL as soon as I saw it, no brainer. But yes there were so many great albums that year, the ones you mentioned plus Dokken, Ratt, Twisted Sister, Stryper, Dio, Sammy, Yngwie, etc.... These albums rule: Metal Church,Trouble, Anthrax. The problem with 1984 on is now the heavy metal kinda separates between tradional metal and thrash so it's kind of eskewed from here on out. I can't put Destruction and Van Halen in the same list, ya know.....
