Yeah, that always cracks me up. So many of those albums have a really short shelf-life, they sell like crazy at first and then nobody wants to hear them again a couple years later. Further proof that the biggest sellers are almost never those of enduring quality. |

Also further proof that the industry built itself on false numbers. They may sell 5,000,000 copies, but that was in a time when the only way to get an album was to buy it outright. If half of those people only ended up liking the single after buying the album then it ends up used shops, pawn shops, under the car seat or lost. _________________ FINAL SIGN

| K0rn is one of those bands that always shows up by the steamer trunk load in used bins. I guess once kids grow out of their angsty-teenage years, those albums don't cut it anymore. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. It's a chore to make it through all of it in an hour...there are probably 1,000 CDs at $1... That is crazy talk! A chore? More like the ultimate pleasure to filter through hours of $1.00 bins. (insert drooly smiley here) Unless of course you mean that it takes a long time and you only have a certain amount of time, otherwise its just crazy talk. | |

| The only place I can get used CDs at $1-4 is Half Price Books. My usual CD haunt has a section for CDs that are $4.99 buy 1 get 1 free. I've found several CDs in that bin that turned out to go for a high price elsewhere. However, I've exhausted that section from anything good. Heck, I've exhausted the bargain section in all the local Half Price Books as well. I used to go through them weekly and always came away with at least 5 CDs, I haven't found much in the past several months. | |

Yeah, it's only because I get about 50 minutes to browse at lunch. I've been through and thought I got everything then gone back through the same racks a few days later and found a few I wanted...they either were not there OR I missed them because I go kinda fast when I'm on lunch break. _________________ FINAL SIGN

I've kind of perfected the art of CD browsing. I've gone through an entire area in the time it takes a normal person to get through one section. At Half Price Books it's very annoying when several people are browsing the bargain section because they just get in the way. I wish more people could browse CDs at my level .

| The thing that drives me crazy is when they rack everything so tightly that you can't flip through them. I swear places could sell triple the amount if they arranged it spines up. I nicely made this suggestion in a few places and each time the person looked at me like I had said they should pile them on the floor.
The worst is Rockaway in LA. Granted space is a big limitation for them, but storing them in boxes under a counter makes it impossible to go through. Even worse is that the selection isn't the typical dollar bin dreck. Go stuff to be found - just let me find it without having to crouch down on the floor while not blocking the isle.
The best is Freakbeat Records where the dollar bin is off by itself and all spines are up. You can go through the whole thing in minutes. Good promo finds too. Of course their regular inventory is another story.

| Rockaway sounds like this used CD store over here called the CD Source. The racks are so full you have tons of boxes filled with CDs all over the place. It would have taken me about 5 hours to check everything. I was only there two hours and had to swiftly browse to do that (course it was best not to look more because I ended up spending over $200 on CDs with what I did get through). | |

| The one area I've improved in my hopeless quest to buy less music is in containing myself with the dollar bins. I'm actually quite proud of the restraint I've show in not just grabbing everything I think might be interesting. Of course running out of shelf space helps with that too.
For me just going through tons of cds is almost as much fun as scoring those good finds. Always wish I had more time when you get in those kinds of places. Ever notice how cd shopping makes time fly like nothing else can?

| Yes, I have more fun shopping for CDs sometimes than I do actually listening to them (though it's very dissapointing when you walk away with nothing). | |

| Worse than walking away with nothing is leaving something behind only to go back for it and it's gone. Hate those scenarios. I saw one of the recent Heart records recently for a buck, didn't want to wait in the huge Hastings line so figure I'd stash it and get it later on. Gone the next time. Funny thing this, in reality how many times would I have actually listened to it? I keep trying to convince myself of such things when going through the cheap bins. Of course I then get something like Fear Of God - Toxic Voodoo (which was two dollars) and I think "I need to get more cheap things since there is so much overlooked/undervalued". Can't win, but sure is fun trying. | |

Speaking of Fear Of God, I got Within The Veil on CD in a buy 1 for $5 get 1 free bin. If you look on Amazon it's usually alot more to get it used: http://www.amazon.com/Fear-God/dp/B000008FJ7/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1334504810&sr=1-1 Just one of many bargain bin CDs I got for a whole lot less than what it would normally go for.

| That is a great score. I passed it by two different times for about twenty. It was hole-punched and I was never that into that record when it came out. But this other Fear Of God I got has me thinking I won't make that mistake again. Love finding the discounted rarities. Always fun seeing what the value some of those things go for. | |

Yeah, but nothing more frustrating when you find out you sold a CD for a lot less than it costs.

I always see Bjork stuff in the dollar bins. Wish that had been the case years back when I had gotten into the Sugarcubes . It always seemed like those Sugarcubes/Bjork albums were always costly imports. Great pick up on those Lauper and Bangles records. Both well worth more than the dollar spent.

| You guys are making me jealous. We have several thrift stores in town, but the cd's are usually CCM (you can SOMETIMES find Christian rock or metal) or Christmas music. I think the last rock album i was able to get at one was a cassette copy of Heart's "Passionworks". | |
