I like QT's "Reservoir Dogs" too.
I like that he pushes the envelope on what is acceptable in US cinema. Most of his movies would be considered tame by Asian standards.

I like many of his films. Inglorious Basterds had one of the most brilliant opening and closing sequences I've seen recently. (the cabin/the theater)
Him and Rodriguez push the envelope far enough for me, I like to keep that stuff on the "humorous" side of the spectrum.

Rodriguez really won me over with Planet Terror.
I didn't think any movie could be gorier than Peter Jackson's "Dead Alive" (unrated of course). But I was wrong; Planet Terror is the goriest movie I've ever seen.

Well, I can definitely understand what you're saying about his interest in obscure films, Shawn. Tarantino has expressed his fondness for Cirio H. Santiago, if you know who that is. I just think he is so over-rated, but perhaps I am being a little harsh.

Robert Rodriguez > Quentin Tarantino
This is true. Rodriguez is the man. Have you seen "Machete?"
The only Q.T. related stuff I've ever liked was this movie, and a "Simpsons" episode when he "guest directed" an Itchy & Scratchy cartoon and then was killed by them.
I don't recall ever seeing any Itchy & Scratchy cartoon that included him, but I guess I'm gonna have to look for it on YouTube. Machete is a great flick, and I think I discussed it with you a little bit a while ago. In fact, earlier today I started feeling the need to watch it again...and I'll definitely be seeing the sequels when they get released!
Toho - I've seen both of those movies and I remember Dead Alive being much gorier, but then again I only saw each film once.

For my money, the unrated version of Planet Terror is a lot gorier than Dead Alive. The helicopter scene alone puts it over the top IMO. I thought the lawnmower massacre of zombies in Dead Alive was gory; that's nothing compared to helicopter blades slicing and dicing their way through a zombie horde.

The unrated version, well that would explain it. I saw it in the theaters when it was the Grindhouse double bill with Death Proof.
I saw the movie with a girl who considered Bruce Willis to be "the sexiest man alive" and her then-boyfriend. So, when Willis mutated into that huge blob, her boyfriend said, "He's still haawwwt!!" in this really girly voice hahaha.

Funny story!
Yeah, the unrated versions of both movies contain a lot more gore than the rated versions.

That's a really good sequence, there's a very similar scene in "28 Weeks Later", not as gory, but done more "realistically". Interesting to compare the two scenes I would imagine.

Picked up a coupla cheapie horrors (2 for $4!) from the Walgreens' previously-viewed bin tonite:
I only grabbed this cuz I recognize the dude on the cover, he played the supervillain "Scales" on the short-lived superhero show "The Cape" earlier this year.
Never heard of this one either, but what the hell, for two bucks, what have I got to lose, except 90 more minutes of my life?

Haha, Vinnie Jones, mostly terrible but he was good in Lock Stock... I suppose.
Bought a couple of dvds, not available on blu-ray, so not bad for 98 pence each

Yeah, now I realize that this guy has been in tons of other stuff I've seen, including those two films. But when I saw the "Bog" DVD cover, the first thing that came to mind was "Scales" (his character in "The Cape").

About time this came out. It almost seemed like they would never release this. Ren & Stimpy gets so much credit for pushing the envelope of a kid's show but Rocko wasn't a slouch in that department.
