Last night I bought the box set of the entire "Chucky" series on Blu-ray for $25. That boils down to a little over $3 per movie. I haven't seen the entire series and some of the ones I have seen are a bit spotty but one thing these flicks aren't is boring so for the price this seemed like a no-brainer.

My copy of this 7 disc set came yesterday and the 3D/hologram picture of Chucky on the cover is really creepy. I still find it amazing that 7 blu ray discs cost a little over $3 apiece.

My daughter was in a local stage production of Mary Poppin's Jr. She never saw the original, so I picked up a copy. I hadn't seen it myself in 35 years or more.

For the most part, I'd agree. However in this day of high-def, some of the "special effects" aren't as special. You can clearly make out the suspension wires during that Uncle Albert scene. And during the penguin dance, you can see the live background bleed through the animations.

It's not a big deal and I've spotted it in other old movies as well. Hi-def, Blu-Ray, and 4K pictures highlight production flaws that went completely unnoticed back in the day. That's modern technology for ya. Laughing

Can you believe I've never seen the movie higher than 720p? Or on an HDTV, now that I think about it. We still pull out the old (and I mean old, early 80's) VHS and throw it on the CRT. What's funny is I have a copy of the BD but for whatever weird reason I've yet to check it out. Now I really want to.

The fresh parts to me are the story dynamics and constant visual humor. It's all so appealing mixed with Andrew's unreal methods of control and reaction. None of it, other than some creaky stage shooting, has lost its impact. It's just as fun on the 1000th viewing at it was on the first.

Really itching to see the sequel!

Man I love that flick; it parodies "religiosity" relentlessly which to me is the whole point of the film.

I remember people being all bent out of shape when it came out, calling it sacrilegious and such. But I saw an interview with John Cleese and he said the Python troupe took great pains not to blaspheme or say anything negative about Christ and his message; the whole point was to skewer organized religion which I think the film does gloriously.

Thrift shop find for a buck:

Halloween 4 and 5 (2-DVD set) - couldn't pass it up, it was still sealed.

...yeah, "5" pretty much blows but I've always liked "4," it was the first Halloween flick I saw in a theater so it's a sentimental fave.

Besides, it's October, so I kinda have to watch at least one Halloween movie. Razz

Geez, I barely ever buy movie DVDs anymore, yet suddenly I've picked up two new ones in the past two days, haha.
