There are probably at least 1/2 dozen 2010 releases that I simply haven't heard yet that would make the list, but this is what I've got. Another great year in my opinion, though not as strong at the top, more solid through the top 15-20.

1 - Overkill - Iron Bound - 9.75/10 - Every song is nearly perfect. One of the best Thrash albums ever.

2- Accept - Blood of the Nations - 9.75/10 - Pure Heavy Metal. Great power, great vocals, great tunes. Also, a huge surprise.

3- Soulspell - Labyrinth of Truths - 9.5 - Simiply amazing! This album has the highest points in 2010 for me. That's why it beats the other 9.5s. It slows down at points just enough to not be #1.

4 - Avantasia - Wicked Symphony - 9.5 - Great songwriting and Guest performances. More consistant than Soulspell, but doesn't hit the same heights.

5 - Warbeast - Krush the Enemy - 9.5 - Perfect Thrash for any decade. So brutal, w/ great tunes.

6 - Excalion - High Time - 9.5 - Really solid all the way through. Great vocals and great songwriting from a band few listen to.

7 - Airbourne - No Guts, No Glory - 9.5 - Excellent songwriting. Every song is great w/ hooks.

8 - Sabaton - Coat of Arms - 9.25 - All songs well above average. Another great album. They don't write bad songs.

9 - Alter Bridge - AB III - 9.25 - Fantastic songwriting! Not quite as good as Blackbird, but still great.

10 - Blind Guardian - At the Edge of Time - 9.25 - Possibly their best since NIME. All songs good to great.

11 - Forbidden - Omega Wave - 9.0 - Every song good to awesome. Great Thrash in 2010.

12 - Pretty Maids - Pandemonium - 9.0 - Best songs = Perfect. All songs are at least good.

13 - Heathen - The Evolution of Chaos - 9.0 - Very good and solid. Well written, just not quite as frenetic and powerful as Overkill or Warbeast.

14 - Wuthering Heights - Salt - 9.0 - Took some growing...and then it clicked hard. Not their best (Far From the Madding Crowd) but still great.

15 - Allen/Lande - The Showdown - 9.0 - As good as ever. Great songwriting, but also just like the first two.

16 - Third Day - Move - 9.0 (if this doesn't fit, just strike it and move everything else up one spot) - Top-Knotch songwriting. Classic Third Day. My favorite since their first.

17 - Firewind - Days of Defiance - 9.0 - Very good return to form. Very solid throughout.

18 - Sinbreed - When Worlds Collide - 8.75 - Well above average. No bad songs.

19 - Ancient Bards - The Alliance of the Kings - 8.75 - All songs very solid. The great songs are fantastic.

20 - Masterplan - Time to be King - 8.75 - Very good. Not as good as first two (which are 9.75 and 10), but still very good.

21 - Avantasia - Angel of Babylon - 8.75 - Very good, just not as strong as Wicked Symphony. Doesn't reach the heights WS does.

22 - Van Canto - Tribe of Force - 8.5 - Great songs are great, but some songs are so-so.

23 - High of Fire - Snakes for the Divine - 8.5 - Some truly fantastic, heavy moments...some lulls.

24 - The Sword - Warp Riders - 8.5 - Very solid. About 3 very good songs, and the rest are simply good.

25 - Dark Moor - Ancestral Romance - 8.25-8.5 - Typical Dark Moor. Not their best, but a good album.

26 - Saint - Hell Blade - 8.25 - Very solid. Some great, most good.

27 - Kerion - The Origins - 8.0 - Pretty good, well executed symphonic Powermetal. Needed a little extra oomph...and it started to repeat.

28 - Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier - 7.75 - Above average. Better than their last, but draws on at times.

29 - Acrassicauda - Only the Dead See the End of War - 7.75 - Solid, above average Thrash. Good songwriting and execution. A surprise.

30 - Priestess - Prior to the Fire - 7.25 - Some great songs, some mediocre. Not bad, but probably not a keeper.

Yeah, with Magnus, Allen, and Lande you just can't go wrong. I would love them to do a tour, at least so I can see Lande live (already seen Allen live).

PLACE OF SKULLS - As A Dog Returns

Great doom album. Too bad I didn't get it until 2011.

Added: # 8 - Hawthorn - Blood and Thorns. This album came out in 2010 but due to the extremely slow Latin countries post I did not receive until 1-16-11.

This band plays a crushing blend of symphonic blackened death metal.

They are the first new act signed by Sullen / Intense-Millenium Records. Go to Divine Metal Distro for more info.

There are lots of contradictory opinions on Halford IV. Many metaheads consider it to be a letdown.

I personally started enjoying it a lot recently, and it's now a regular spinner in my car on my way to work.

I hate when I don't hear albums until after the year has passed. I must revise mine since I heard the EXCELLENT "Worlds Collide" album by Unruly Child. Definitely the best work the band has ever done. Marcie Free sounds AMAZING!
