| Sadly, I have none of those Ult listed. Overkill & Fireball Ministry are forthcoming though, and possibly High on Fire.
2010 had been kinda slow for me. There are very few releases that were "must-haves" for me and a few more that fall into the "I'll get them eventually" list. The only 3 that stand out in my mind are:
Slash - s/t Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy Vince Neil - Tattoos & Tequila
I'm really pleasantly surprised with Vince's disc. Never saw that one coming.
I'm still not sold on Armored Saint's La Raza. I've warmed up to it a little more with repeated spins, but overall it didn't live up to my expectations. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

Still gotta get this one. The lukewarm reviews sort of delayed me picking it up. I'm a bit of a fan-boy, so I'm biased in my opinion, but I think every Nevermore released after their debut ramped up the intensity on each album that followed. There was a definite progression. The Obsidian Conspiracy pulled back a little on that and has more mellower moments than past efforts, which might account for the lukewarm reviews. I dunno, it sounds like a Nevermore album to me. It's good. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

Yes, maybe, yes and yes. Add to that list the new Bonded By Blood's Exiled to Earth and Spiritual Beggars Return to Zero. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| Overkill, Ratt, Raven and Airbourne (NO GUTS NO GLORY) have been the highlights of 2010 for me thus far. I also dig Disaffection's BEGIN THE REVOLUTION quite a bit. Looking forward to the new Iron Maiden and the new Accept later this year. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| well, let's see....what do I have..
Labyrinth - Return To Heaven Denied II: A Midnight Autumn's Dream...at least someone can still makes awesome power metal....emotive, intense, exciting, at times proggy, but never plastic.....I am pleased.
Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones...yeah so I'm a huge fan of 'Monotheist'....this is kind of sort of like part II, but not quite. The production/tones attempt the same thing which I think was a mistake. Half of this doesn't sound very focused..but it never gets *bad*..I have the Japanese version, the bonus track is one of the very best songs. Enjoyable and I really get into some of the stuff but if they make a second one I think it will have more good songs....also, this isn't as dark as I expected or as it seems to try to be, so that comes off as a little strange..
Freedom Call - Legend of the Shadowking......this band is trying but it sounds like they aren't. Half the songs are good, some actually very good. But as a whole this just seems kind of comatose and safe.
Rhapsody - The Frozen Tears of Angels....I guess this would be pretty good if it was the first Rhapsody album and not the 7th one. Everything the Labyrinth is, this is not. But of course this will sell more...
Lantlos - .Neon......this is very good although I just got it, can't go into as much detail as it deserves yet. A wonderful mash of black metal and indie/shoegaze/fuzz rock influences. There is a growing movement of artists exploring this, and I've found some good stuff in it.....
Rage - Strings To A Web....Really really good in some places, kind of average for the band in others, but this is, what..album number 16 as Rage? Very good stuff that is getting them more exposure so that's always good.. | |

| I'm having a very slow year as far as new releases. Favorites of 2010: 1. Over Kill- Ironbound 2. Exodus- Exhibit B: the Human Condition This is a good album, but I have to admit. When I turn it off, I can't remember anything from it. I also got: 1. Rhapsody of Fire- The Frozen Tears of Angels Which was more of the same... 2. Living Sacrifice- the Infinite Order Which was good, but far from outstanding...IMO 3. Eluveitie- Everything Remains... A step or two up production wise...more accessible, but doesn't do it for me. Some older stuff I got so far this year include: 1. Skeletal Earth- Eulogy for a Dying Fetus Which I dig. 2. Metal Church- s/t Which I haven't even listened to yet. 3. Ozzy Osborne- Scream Good, but not great... At least he didn't go with the album title "Soul Sucka" 4. Exodus- Fabulous Disaster Which is easily my favorite purchase for the year even though it is 21 years old. Much more memorable than "Exhibit B," and I think I even prefer Steve Souza on vocals. As with most everyone else here, I am awaiting the arrival of "Final Frontier." | |
