One of the things I look forward to is reading the "Best of..." lists my favorite metal websites and blogs post this time of year. I really enjoy reading them, and always find out about great music I've overlooked during the year, but I've always abhored creating my own lists. However this year I only bought 21 CDs that were actually released in 2010, so it's not that difficult. Of those 21 CDs, here are my top ten (and I'm sure this list will change once I spend a little more time with some of the other music I've purchased):
1. Crazy Lixx - New Religion 2. Bad City - Welcome To The Wasteland 3. Ratt - Infestation 4. Accept - Blood Of The Nations 5. Helloween - 7 Sinners 6. Saint - Hell Blade 7. CrashDiet - Generation Wild 8. Halford - Made Of Metal 9. Dream Evil - Into The Night 10. Wig Wam - Non Stop Rock N Roll
Honorable mentions:
Fozzy - Chasing The Grail Scorpions - Sting Of The Tail

Top 10 in no particular order:
1. Killing Joke - Absolute Dissent - YAY! Original line up again!
2. Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier (admittedly I agree with a lot of the criticism on this album being boring and not what many expected, but something lies with-in this album that I think makes it great. My only complaint is despite being prog which is my fav genre atm, there is no building of momentum or epic parts, plus no maiden hop or gallop)
3. Jackyl - MMKYCA - Talk about a left hook, so pleased with this album
4. Armored Saint - La Raza - so good to hear Bush singing again.
5. Black Label Society - Order of the Black - pure rock to me.
6. Coheed and Cambria - YotBR - Straight up goodness, but a bit short of an album for them.
7. Crash Test Dummies - I know it isnt rock/metal, but pulling from my alternative tastes, I loved this band since the college music era of alternative music was big. These guys are really more folk but it is great to hear Brad back at making music.
8. Scorpions - what a record to go out on!
9. Accept - wow! glad they are back, and man can the new guy sing. Nice fit if you cant have Udo.
10 - honorable mentions - Halford, Melissa Auf Der Maur, Motorhead , Oceansize, Ozzy, Overkill, Ratt, tho only 2 songs they are great so Rush as well.

i think i still have a lot of 2010 releases to dig up, but here are some albums, in no particular order, that ive highly enjoyed this year so far:
deathspell omega - paracletus - a nearly perfect cd that lived up to high expectations slechtvalk - a forlorn throne - ive always loved these guys and this is another solid album to their name nydvind - sworn to the elders - pretty long wait, but an enjoyable cd atheist - jupiter - great, highly listenable, and talented, though not quite as good as their original stuff ephemeral sun - harvest aorta - more rock than metal, but if youre into prog, i cant recommend these guys more kerasphorus - cloven hooves at the holocaust dawn - superior (short lived) local black/death
edit: forgot an important one
witchaven - terrorstorm - cool underground black/thrash from the southern california scene

Thanks exact, I think we have similar taste. You have a lot of CDs on your list I've been wanting to check out. Now that I've subscribed to Zune Pass, I'll be able to.

MetalGuy71's Top 10 of 2010
1. Accept - Blood of Nations (no expectations, was blown away!!) 2. The Sword – Warp Riders (could’ve tied with #1, it’s that good) 3. Priestess – Prior to the Fire (with the popularity of The Sword and other retro 70’s metal, these guys should be much, much bigger) 4. Slash – s/t (listened to more than both Snakepit albums combined) 5. Nevermore – The Obsidian Conspiracy (sounds like Nevermore to me) 6. Megadeth – Rest In Peace Live (great album, great live set) 7. Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders – Red Light Fever (another surprise outta left-field. Quality rock album with shades of Queen, poppier moments of Foo Fighters and an appearance from Brian May) 8. Black Label Society – The Order of the Black (BLS, you know what to expect and this delivers) 9. Early Man – Death Potion (took awhile to warm-up to, but it’s good stuff. Another band that’s riding the wave of retro metal that should be bigger) 10. Armored Saint – La Raza (another one that took awhile to warm-up to, due to high expectations, but it’s settled in nicely amongst their other albums)
Honorable Mentions: Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants – s/t (Stones-like rock/country album from Foo Fighter's guitarist) Vince Neil – Tattoos & Tequila (pleasantly surprised) High on Fire – Snakes for the Divine (I think I finally "get" these guys) Joe Elliott’s Down n’ Outz – s/t Oracle – Desolate Kings Anthology (old material, but it's all new to me) Colossus – Drunk on Blood ep (should be interesting to see where these guys go from here) Bonded By Blood – Exiled to Earth (nothing groundbreaking, but good old-school thrash, needs more spins to sink-in) Disaffection – Begin the Revolution (see Bonded By Blood)
Disappointments: Iron Maiden – The Final Frontier (wanted to like it, just too long & boring in parts) Ozzy – Scream (even my low expectation weren’t met) Negligence – Coordinates of Confusion (may improve with more spins, a little samey) Blatant Disarray – Everyone Dies Alone (too samey) Heathen – The Evolution of Chaos (not bad, just didn’t live up to pre-release hype)

Top tens are cool to look through, but hard to come up with as I have seen myself add and subtract various discs while compiling - this is probably it for me when all is said and done: 1. Haken - Aquarius 2. Day Six - The Grand Design 3. Blind Guardian - At The Edge... 4. Edgend - A New Identity 5. Blaze Bayley - Promise And Terror 6. Helloween - 7 Sinners 7. Accept - Blood Of The Nations 8. Iron Maiden - Final Frontier 9. Myrath - Desert Call 11. Wuthering Heights - Salt 12. Gallows End - Nemesis Devine
Plus there was Artizan, Sinbreed, Innerwish, Signum Regis, Painside, Darkwater, Halcyon Way, Manticora, Black Majesty, Section A, Fracture, ...
I equate these to thank you lists, you always forget something.
