Yes! that's a good one too!
I just finished reading two other Ramones books but "I Slept With..." was better than either of them.
"Ramones: An American Band" by Jim Bessman was a decent bio but since it was written while the band was still active (1993) it's a bit out of date.
"Poisoned Heart: A Punk Love Story" by Vera Ramone King (DeeDee's ex wife) was pretty dry and not particularly well written (I believe I described it in another thread as sounding like a 14 year old girl's MySpace blog"...haha). I give the girl credit for staying with DeeDee as long as she did, and there were a few interesting stories in it but I was kinda glad when it was over.

Joey Ramone's second posthumous solo album, "YA KNOW?" will be released on May 22nd (which happens to be my birthday, hint hint... just sayin'.)
The first single from the album "Rock N Roll is the Answer" will be released as a limited edition 7-inch vinyl to celebrate Record Store Day (April 21st).

Sounds cool. I'll probably get it at some point. I like Don't Worry About Me. Speaking about the Ramones, I saw this in Barnes & Noble last night...
I think it's kinda new-ish. Flipped through it. Seemed pretty cool. Lotsa cool pics. Johnny sure didn't hide his dislike of the other band members. Sound like he and Joey butted heads till the very end.

^^ Yeah, that book is a fairly new release, MG. First time I've seen the cover. Cool pic. Johnny was kind of a douche, but he's still the man. I definitely wanna read this.

You really need to see it in "real life". It almost looks like an old high school text book the way the thing is binded together. Kinda hard to explain, but it's cool. I wouldn't mind giving it a read. There was also an excerpt from in in the last issue of 'Classic Rock' magazine.
That 'End of The Century' doc from a few years ago really made Johnny out to be kind of a dick, especially in their latter years, but you know what? Those guys needed a leader. He definately steered the ship. I can't say I blame him. Even with all their "we do whatever we want" punk attitude, you can tell Johnny's military upbriging kept things moving forward. He was a guy that got things done. Period.

Oh yeah, no doubt, if it weren't for Johnny that band wouldn't have lasted as long as they did. He kept the machine goin'. Still and all, with all that I've read and heard about him over the years I can't believe the other guys put up with his crap for that long. In any other band, somebody would've killed him while he was sleeping.

Joey Ramone's new album comes out this Tuesday (May 22nd), my birthday. Hopefully the Best Buy up the road from my office will be stockin' it so I can get a birthday present to myself on my lunch break.
Till then, you can preview the whole dang album on Rolling Stone's web site... I've sampled a few tracks and it sounds like good shiz:

Best Buy's web site sez that the store near my office will have the CD in stock today. Woot! Happy birthday to me!

My local paper gave it 3 out of 4 stars. I was surprised to see a review at all, let alone a positive one. Their only critcism was that at 14 songs, it was a tad too long. I guess that's to be expected though. If these were his last demos, I guess it makes sense to get them all out there to the public.

I listened to the whole album on Rolling Stone's website last night, it sounded pretty good to me. There were maybe three clunkers out of the 14 tracks, which isn't a bad batting average for a dead guy.
It seemed more cohesive and a bit harder rockin' than Don't Worry About Me as well, which is cool. I enjoyed (and still enjoy) Don't Worry... but it does sometimes feel like a collection of "leftovers." The Ya Know? tracks were demos but they were touched up in post-op by Joey's brother Mickey Leigh and a group of Joey's friends/fellow musicians so it sounds more like Joey fronting an actual "band."

The best book I have read about them was by their road manager, On the Road with The Ramones by Monte Melnick (+ Frank Meyer).
Haven't read that one yet but I highly recommend "I Slept With Joey Ramone" by Joey's brother, Mickey Leigh.
I just ordered a copy of 'I Slept With Joey Ramone' from Amazon. $6 shipped. Looking forward to reading it. I want to get Jonny's book 'Commando' as well, but I might wait till Christmas for that one.
Freddy, how is Joey's last disc ...Ya Know holding up, now that the shines off the apple, so to speak?

I think you'll dig "I Slept With..." MG71. Funny you mention "Commando," i just reserved a copy of that @ my library, just waiting for it to come in (they have to ship it from one of the surrounding towns).
As for "Ya Know," I'm still diggin' it. It's definitely a more cohesive album than Don't Worry About Me.
Speaking of which, the 2nd music video from "Ya Know" for the track "New York City" just premiered earlier this week. Check it, yo. Watch for the cameos by TV chef Anthony Bourdain, Tommy Ramone, Andrew W.K. and others:

I'm sure I'll pick it up at some point. I'm in the midst of a Ramones frenzy at the moment and almost bought it on Amazon when I was placing my order. Got the book and a coupla more Ramones discs on the way. I need to slow down and absorb all I've got at the moment.

Joey Ramone passed away twelve years ago today. Listen to some Ramones in tribute.

The Ramones' self titled debut was released on this date in 1976. That's thirty seven years ago!! Cheez, I'm old.
I wish I could say that I was one of the original fans who bought it on the day of release and that I've been there all along, but since I was only six years old at the time, I'd be completely full of sh*t.
Ramones still rules, no matter how old it is. Hail...!!

I didn't really get into The Ramones until Rocket To Russia so this one was under my 16 year old radar at the time.

Sad news...
Quote :
Ramones collaborator Arturo Vega has died at the age of 65. The Mexican artist created the band’s iconic logo and continued to work with them for 22 years, firstly as their lighting tech and later as their archivist. The San Fransisco Bay Guardian says: “He was a gentleman and a warm-hearted, soft-spoken genial man with a dry wit. It was always a joy to hear from him. LIke it was 1979 for ever. We’ll miss you, Artie.”
Arturo was with the band from the early days and shared his studio apartment with Joey (and anyone else the wanted to crash there).

I meant to post this here yesterday but forgot. Thanks for pickin' up the slack, MG.
Arturo designed the Ramones' iconic "President's Seal" logo, and legend had it that he only missed two Ramones shows during the band's entire career.
When I met the Ramones at a record store signing in '92 I remember seeing Arturo hanging at the back of the room with the band's road manager, Monte Melnick (who I recognized due to his brief appearance in "Rock N Roll High School").

To check in - my neighbor, he was 6 years older than me, worked on cars, he corrupted me with my first beers, pot and The Ramones - He said these guys were the best he ever heard - ( KISS alive was out at the same time...but it wasn't as cool and wild ) I was an instant fan - he went to see em on the "Road To Ruin " tour - ( great lp cover ) wanted me to go - but no way, from my parents - nooooo way - I actually formed a rock band - we did " I just wanna have something to do " - played it at High School talent show - won - ha ha - saw them a few times - very exciting shows - the best of crowds too - Had a sign at one show " JOEY FOR PREZ !!! " - unfurled it - balcony booth tickets - crowd went wild for 30 seconds -
