| I think it would have to be "Speak English or Die" by S.O.D. That album is just in-your-face metal. I realize they were kidding around with the lyrics and all, but still. I mean "Kill Yourself" is pretty intense. As well as the anthem "Milk" where there isn't any milk when you want it and I hate when that happens. Charlie Benante rips on the drums, as he usually does. Dan Lilker plays the bass as fast as he can (I'm overexaggerating saying that, but he plays fast) Scott Ian does some very heavy riffs and Billy Milano's voice sets the aggressiveness of the album. Even though they were kidding around when they made this, it's awesome. |

| What MC666 said. Usually when I think of Heavy, I think of Doom oriented music, like Electric Wizard. Not necessarily fast, or aggressive, or just loud for the sake of being loud... | |

| Back in the 70's, I would have swore that Aerosmith's "Rocks" was one of the heaviest album recorded. Sabbath were heavy, but they were a different heavy. Something about "Rocks" just screamed "heavy" to me.
I remember hearing Judas Priest's "Stained Class" back in the very early 80's and thinking it was the heaviest thing I had ever heard. "Exciter" blew me away. Soon after I heard "Hell Bent for Leather" and I thought that nothing could ever be as heavy as that album, especially delivering the goods.
The funny thing is, neither of those bands are considered all that heavy any more. People argue that Aerosmith were never a heavy metal band. There are even people now who argue that Judas Priest are "just hard rock". So obviously the term "heavy" changes over time and can mean different things to different people. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| In the 70's I also thought that Deep Purple's "Machine Head" and Ted Nugent's "Double Live Gonzo" were some of the heaviest records on earth!
I remember in high school in the 1983 hearing Metallica's Kill 'em All for the first time. Surely nothing can be heavier than songs like "Whiplash" and "Metal Militia". _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| My brother and I have talked about how our definition of "heavy" has changed over time. Back in like '81 when we first heard AC/DC, we were like "There's no way anyone can beat this." Then along came Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" and we sez "OK, THIS is it. You can't get heavier than this." Then came Motley Crue's "Looks That Kill," and again we're like "We found it! This is it!" ... then came Metallica and KILL'EM ALL, and it's like "Motley Who?" After that it was Possessed, then Slayer, then Napalm Death, then Morbid Angel....
...and so on, and so on, and so on.... _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I swear that when my brother first brought that LP home when we were in high school and he put it on the stereo, I thought that something was wrong with the turntable. I was like "What the HELL is this?" It sounded like a cement mixer. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I was like "What the HELL is this?" It sounded like a cement mixer. My roommate in college brought this to our apartment when it first came out and played it. I had already been a thrash fan, but this was so fast I remember making the statement, "if music gets any faster it's going to sound like just one constant noise". I don't remember thinking it was all that "heavy" but that it was unreal fast. Haven't pulled that CD out in a while. Might have to give SCUM as spin tomorrow. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| First time I had heard Napalm Death's Scum, my reaction was almost stunned silence, I thought it was incredibly fast and heavy, l thought never would there be a faster, heavier band. | |

| Yea, me too. Something in the "doom" genre. Nothing specific springs to mind at the moment though. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| "Heavy" is a funny word. Helmet - Meantime, Atari Teenage Riot - Burn Berlin, Burn, and Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On are ALL "heavy" to me. |

| Yea, Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt' is heavy to me. "Heavy" is too broad of a definition. It's too many things to different people. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Heaviest doesn't mean the best.
There's a lot of heavy music that is awful.
I'd probably go with something like MORTICIAN, even though I don't listen to them. | |
